New Vegas as a spin off?

Why is fallout new Vegas marked as a spin off? It is a cannon (or at least semi cannon) game with gameplay being the same as f3 with only some changes 185.186.152.130 (talk) 11:29, 16 February 2023 (UTC)

No, because it's a spin off. This is backed by reliable secondary sourcing, per WP:V. Being a spin-off, or not, has nothing to do with being canon, or not. -- ferret (talk) 23:15, 7 May 2023 (UTC)

It's not a spin off, as regardless of if it is numbered it is still a main game, and I see no source stating otherwise. A spin off is something that is wildly different from the main series, at least by most definitions. (Kelis98 (talk) 20:04, 21 August 2023 (UTC))

Yes but there are also dozens of sources starting the opposite as well, it is also debatable whether one persons opinion/wording in an article counts as a source in this case (Kelis98 (talk) 12:12, 22 August 2023 (UTC))

I've never seen one reliable source presented that says "New Vegas is a main line game in the Fallout series". Feel free to use WP:VG/S's reliable source search to find and present some though. Fallout 76 a SpinOff?

I know that 76 is an unpopular game for the most part, however, I think it still counts as a standalone game in the series. Opinions? 67.135.4.210 (talk) 14:42, 24 April 2024 (UTC)

Reliable sources refer to 76 as a spinoff. I am not sure why people get so hung up on that for FONV and FO76. Being a spinoff doesn't mean that the game isn't official or canon, just that they don't consider it the main narrative branch. -- ferret (talk) 14:46, 24 April 2024 (UTC)
