Pablo Neruda is listed as having died both September 23 and September 24?

Giving precise dates to ancient Islamic events is risky. Such dates are recorded in the Hijri calendar. Since this calendar depends upon human observation of the new moon, which was affected by weather, position of the observer (mountains in the way etc.) and reverse projection based on astronomical tables may be out by a day (or even two) in either direction.

EU Democracy Day[edit]

EU Democracy Day is September 24 (see [1]). I am not sure how to add a note on this to this article though...? --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus 20:21, 24 Sep 2004 (UTC)

1st day of Ramadan?[edit]

I believe this is the first day of Ramadan in 2006, shouldn't this be noted on the holidays page?

Red Hot Chili Peppers released this album on this day in 1991, I believe that it should be noted as this album has been in numerous top 100 lists. Adamravenscroft 17:30, 24 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Blood Sugar etc.[edit]

That is against the guidlines of Wikipedia unfortunately, no album releases or music release dates are allowed to be posted. For the obvious reason that the list would blow out of proportion and album releases aren't historically significant.

William13893 20:47, 23 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, unfortunately we just can't list albums. Besides, another album also came out on this date back in 1991. It is titled Nevermind, and probably had a little more impact on the world than BSSM. 10draftsdeep (talk) 14:39, 24 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. If there were ever an exception to be made to this rule, this would be the place to make it. Stuthehistoryguy (talk) 20:28, 20 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It should be here on this page Theobegley2013 (talk) 23:24, 10 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Births?[edit]

What, no Births? Phil Hartman, Jim Henson, Mean Joe Greene, Linda McCartney, Kevin Sorbo... Kilraven 03:42, 26 September 2007 (UTC) Howard Hughes September 24, 1905 April 5 1976 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 142.167.107.76 (talk) 22:20, 4 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Removed Latvian festival[edit]

Yet another Latvian festival. Why do these keep appearing when the Latvian mythology page has been disputed (and not corrected) for years? The linked page (Miķeļi) has no supporting citations, so I removed it. The Lesser Merlin (talk) 06:54, 24 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hajira confusion[edit]

Wikipedia's page on Mohammed's Hijra show it finished on 11 July. Why is it here, on 24 September? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Domklyve (talkcontribs) 18:05, 24 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Mars Orbiter Mission[edit]

Hello. There is an Event entry for the Mars Orbiter Mission. It reads:

"2014 – The Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM), informally called Mangalyaan, is a Mars orbiter launched into Earth orbit by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), It was successfully inserted into orbit of Mars. Thrusters started firing at 7:17:35 AM IST. India would also be the first country to enter Martian orbit in the first try."

Besides the obvious need for some editing, I did not think this was notable on the same level as other events that get listed here. So, I removed this Event entry, but it was later restored with a helpful suggestion to familizarize myself with Wikipedia's guidelines for notability. I took a look at the notability guidelines for Events, found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Days_of_the_year#What_is_notable. I still think this entry is not suitable to be listed as an Event. It is not the first successful orbital mission to Mars; there have been at least 10 orbital and/or lander missions in the past going all the way back to the 1970's, executed by 3 different countries and the EU/ESA. The one "first" that this entry has going for it is "India would be the first country to enter Martian orbit in the first try". That is very pigeonholed, and I doubt that such an entry would stand the test of time as well as: the first sighting of the Great White Spot of Saturn, or the launching of the first nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, or the founding of Honda Motor Company, or the Seige of Przemyśl, or the death of a Roman emporer (just to name a few other Event entries for this date). I will invite any discussion on this topic for the next day, before I remove the entry again.128.214.53.18 (talk) 09:34, 24 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@128.214.53.18: I think that this event is notable enough. It made india the first asian nation to send an orbitrer in mars.Other editors opinion are invited. Please do not remove this entry until it reaches a consensus on this talk page of the article.Thanks.--Param Mudgal talk? 15:05, 25 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@UserParam Mudgal:Thank you for the reply. Here are some example of what is notable:
  • "Records Records significant on a global scale, such as firsts, lasts, precedents, milestones (first human to walk on the moon, to climb Mount Everest, to reach Antarctica, etc.)"
  • "Milestones in inventions or technology – the date the nuclear bomb was first used successfully, the date the first computer went on the market, the date the Internet began, patent dates of important inventions like the telephone, light bulb, etc."
You will notice that first is an important factor in deciding what is notable. This event is not the first. It is the 11th or the 12th. And India is not the first country to do this. It is the 4th or the 5th. India is not even the first Asian nation to do this. It is either the 2nd or the 3rd, considering that the majority of Russia and the former Soviet Union is in Asia.
As the notability guidelines say, "Something that is newsworthy is not necessarily noteworthy." This event is notable enough to be included on ITN, and to have it's own Wikipedia page, but it is not notable enough to be included on a select list of anniversaries. Notability for these lists is much higher than in other parts of Wikipedia.128.214.53.18 (talk) 04:34, 26 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@128.214.53.18:Please look at this. This article states that india was the 'first' asian nation to send an orbitrer in Mars.Thanks.--Param Mudgal talk? 09:34, 26 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Param Mudgal: Here is a list of Asian countries. You will note that Russia is on it. This makes India the second country to accomplish this task. If we consider that Kazakhstan (another Asian country) hosts and organizes a large part of the Russia Space Program, then that makes India the third country. So, this is event is not a 'first'. 128.214.53.18 (talk) 10:12, 26 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@128.214.53.18:But what can you say about the above source which is present in the article??--Param Mudgal talk? 10:44, 26 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Param Mudgal: I can say that the source is wrong. Because something is written in a newspaper does not make it true.128.214.53.18 (talk) 11:21, 30 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@128.214.53.18:There are 3-4 sources present in this article. All of them cant be wrong.Thanks.--Param Mudgal talk? 11:31, 30 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Param Mudgal: Is Russia in Asia?128.214.53.18 (talk) 04:44, 7 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@128.214.53.18: This is not what is right or wrong. You may be right but if you dont have any reliable sources to prove it then wikipedia cant accept it.If you have any reliable sources that prove that india was not the first asian nation to do so , then the matter can be solved without any further delay.Thanks.--Param Mudgal talk? 09:26, 7 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Param Mudgal: Are you saying Wikipedia's own list of Asian countries is not a reliable source?128.214.53.18 (talk) 07:46, 10 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hols and observances: our Lady of Walsingham (Church of England)[edit]

the article on our Lady of Walsingham says "Our Lady of Walsingham is remembered by Catholics on 24 September and by Anglicans on 15 October." So "Church of England" should be removed here, unless there is evidence for it. --134.153.14.79 (talk) 12:35, 24 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Battle of Prestonpans[edit]

According to our article Battle of Prestonpans the battle lasted for less than 30 minutes on 21 September 1745. It is listed under 21 September. I'm therefore assuming that the entry in today's list is a mistake and will delete it forthwith. Martin of Sheffield (talk) 08:51, 24 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nevermind[edit]

It was released on this day. It is very important for the alternative rock. Theobegley2013 (talk) 14:23, 17 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
