According to the respective articles, Myles died in 1965 and O'Nolan in 1966. I thimk they were the same peson; which is right? --Charles A. L. 20:45, Mar 10, 2004 (UTC)

It is - 1st of April 1966 - and yes, they where the same biological entity, though whether they where the same person....

While the extract from Blather is certainly interesting, wouldn't a more appropriate quotation be one from an actual Cruiskeen Lawn column? The Blather excerpt exhibits a certain student arrogance which I don't think quite conveys the flavor of Myles na Gopaleen. I'd like to replace the Blather quote with a Myles quote, if no one objects.

I went ahead and reorganized this article slightly, moving the Blather excerpt to a new "Early Works" section in the Flann O'Brien article, and adding a quote from the Cruiskeen Lawn column to this page. I found this page about Flann O'Brien, and it gives a different account of O'Nolan's infamous series of letters to The Irish Times, or at least a different impetus for them. Perhaps my source (Cronin's bio) was incorrect, perhaps I misread my source, or perhaps the other article is incorrect. Merger with Flann O'Brien article

With regard to the merging of the Myles na gCopaleen page with the Flann O'Brien page... surely not! Why reunite pseudonyms so joyously separated by Brian O'Nolan (if that is indeed his real name...) for purposes not merely practical but, shall we say, idiosyncratic? His birth certificate would almost certainly have read Brian Ó Nualláin, as his father was an ardent Irish speaker. His pseudonyms should indeed be kept seperate, but it is interesxting to note how many of them he used. Another he used was George Knowall. Perhaps however his many pseudonyms should be catalogued with reference to where each was used.

One of Brian O'Nolan's principles of writing was 'compartmentalisation of the personality for the purposes of literary production'. That principle should be respected here.

I agree that the article merger should not take place. If no strenuous objections appear within the next few days, I (or perhaps you or someone else) will gladly remove the banner. (I've never understood why such banners must appear on the article page and not on the discussion page.)
