"Danish architect Johann Otto von Spreckelsen". Is this information about his nationality correct? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.168.172.132 (talkcontribs) 13:50, 12 November 2002 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 205.169.164.67 (talkcontribs) 17:59, 11 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I changed the picture position; it was in the very lower part of the page; too low I think. And it was 100% size, which gives a good impact but it takes longer to load and it didn't fit the screen (in Firefox at least, on a 1024x768 screen), so I had to scroll the window right to see it all. We need a better main photo of the Arche - from the front at least. Unfortunately I don't have any from close up. Rollo 01:38, 28 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Added photo from Wikimedia Commons. Buxtehude 00:49, 21 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Changed photo to one I took during the day which gives a better idea of the color... hopefully someday we can get one with architectural correction too. anybody in paris have a monorail view camera handy? ZacharyS 14:37, 3 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Good work getting this fixed, guys. A perspective-shift lens photo would be great but all I have is a dinky and dated digicam. The new photo is fine, especially for the nice blue sky. Rollo 20:30, 9 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Norbert: Strictly speaking this is NOT a central projection of a hypercube (unless you add some salt:). File:Grande arche de la defense no Hypercube.jpg — Preceding unsigned comment added by NorbertP (talkcontribs) 16:53, 17 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

gender[edit]

Is there any reason that this arch uses the feminine form of the word arch while the Arc de Triomphe uses the masculine? My studies of French never covered this particular point. —Charles P. (Mirv) 06:14, 2 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I once asked this to a native and the answer was that "arche" conveys grandeur, and in this case sheer size, better than "arc". But the native admitted to never having thought about this supposed difference before. Rollo 21:31, 14 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Does the Arc de Triomphe fit inside?[edit]

My french teacher said once that if you are standing at a certain point on the Champs-Elysée and are looking toward La Défense, you will see that the Arc de Triomphe fits directly in the center of the Arche de Défense, sort of like a box in a box. Is this true? And if so, where must you stand to see this phenominon? J@red  01:34, 27 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No, this isn't quite true. From a point some way down the Champs Elysées they do overlap, but all you see is the top of the Arche appearing thru the "hole" of the Arc de Triomphe. Rollo 21:05, 8 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Secondary Axis with Tour Eiffel and Tour Montparnasse[edit]

The article says: "In addition, the Arche is placed so that it forms a secondary axe (axis) with the two highest buildings in Paris, the Tour Eiffel and the Tour Montparnasse." Looking at a map this does not check out. Does anybody find sources for this claim? --Wpuser4995 (talk) 17:26, 23 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Metal thing in the middle[edit]

What is the metal thing in the middle? And also the tent underneath? Are they part of the original structure or is this building under construction temporarily? The article should explain it. 93.34.147.91 (talk) 10:42, 24 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
