Rankings by course instead of college[edit]

Searching another subject I discovered that some well-publicised league tables such as the Complete University Guide consupe all their college rankings together somehow, rather than allowing a good course at a bad collge or a bad course at a good college to show-up. This strikes me as important for wikieditorians but I am not sure what do do myself, and only add a link to my own blog post http://veg-buildlog.blogspot.co.uk/2015/10/bad-economics-teaching.html on a similar subject - the awfulness of economics degree teaching and what to do about it.

Oh the Complete University Guide do try to explain themselves "The average satisfaction score for all questions except the three about learning resources was calculated and then adjusted for the subject mix at the university. Due to the distribution of the data, and to avoid this measure having an undue influence on the overall ranking, the z-score is divided by three". I hope someone else undersands what I don't.
