RAAF Base Amberley[edit]

Shouldn't this be RAAF Amberley, RAAF Edinburgh etc?? kudz75 02:20, 22 Jun 2004 (UTC)

I adopted the format directly from List of Australian airports. I would go by what the RAAF uses officially. At least one official site uses the RAAF Base Amberley format. [1] --Randwicked 06:04, 22 Jun 2004 (UTC)
You're quite correct, even the RAAF website [2] now uses "RAAF Base <name>" in the USAF style rather than the RAF style that they used to use. kudz75 01:16, 23 Jun 2004 (UTC)

The RAAF have a facility at Gingin, Western Australia. I'm not sure if this is officially a base, or just termed a satellite airfield of RAAF Base Pearce. Nachoman-au 09:34, 26 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Gin Gin (named RAAF Gin Gin - no 'base') is not a base of its own, it is part of RAAF Base Pearce. But it is RAAF land and it is called RAAF Gin Gin. I've been there before up to the ATC tower. I changed 'RAAF Base Williams, Point Cook' to 'RAAF Williams, Point Cook Base' and changed 'RAAF Base Laverton' to 'RAAF Williams, Laverton Base'. This is the naming convention used by the RAAF, and is also seen at the front gates. I've totally rewritten the RAAF Williams page to. Justinbrett 04:39, 2 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

By the way - Woomera is not a RAAF Base. I'm pretty sure it's just called Woomera, or Woomera Training area, or something like that. I'll check this out and leave it for now. Justinbrett 04:52, 2 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I re-organised the list of current bases by state, and cleaned up the links. I removed comments, as by clicking on the link the user can find more information - and it looks much more tidy this way.

Additional RAAF airfields for this article[edit]

According to [a page maintained by Peter Dunn], there were quite a lot more airfields in use during WWII, which were quickly disbanded at the end of the war. I have added one in Tasmania (Valleyfield, site of the former Skyrace Tasmania event that was run by Launceston Country Club Casino in the 1990s) which I can confirm, and I have refined the information about the Nile airfield. based upon Peter Dunn's research and my own close observation in Google Maps/ Google Earth, Nile airfield was probably at the site of a private field which is visible close to this location. Also as a disused field is visible in a paddock about 600m SW of the existing strip. In any case, this field is likely to be close to the town of Nile, not Launceston, so I made the correcting in this article for it's entry in the list.

I cannot confirm the other airfields in Dunn's list, though I suspect they are accurate. The list may be useful in completing the list for other states, but I have no local knowledge and have not researched them. Sinewalker 04:33, 8 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

List of Royal Australian Air Force installations[edit]

I propose to change this page to 'List of Royal Australian Air Force installations'. This is the proper name for the air force. Ozdaren (talk) 12:51, 12 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'll wait until early next week. If I don't hear from other editors I'll make the move then.Ozdaren (talk) 09:04, 14 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Done, page has been moved.Ozdaren (talk) 10:30, 17 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
