Untitled[edit]

Ansar al Sunna is a TERRORIST group which kills civilians, womean and children without any purpose. They kill people in "the name of God", but the thing is they don't even know what God is!

Actually they run very purposeful campaigns.--Vindheim 11:51, 31 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, what's wrong, hajji, did some of your buddies pass you by when they were asking for suicide bombers? Don't worry, you can still blow yourself all to hell if you want.

Kurdish members ?[edit]

Edited out affiliation with this group and the Kurds. In the articles timeline it claims that Jaish Ansar Al-Sunna attacked a Kurdish political groups headquarters. Any affiliation would be contradictory. Izzy1985 09:58, 14 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The Jaish Ansar al-Sunnah is a direct descendant of the Kurdish islamist organization Ansar al-Islam. The attacks on the KDP and PUK offices in Arbil in February 2004 were claimed as revenge for attcks on Ansar al-Islam. Kurdish and Arab composition of group is a fact. --Vindheim 10:15, 14 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
"The insurgents have also targeted Iraqi Kurds for their alleged collaboration with U.S. forces. In September 2003, members of the Jaysh al-Ansar al-Sunna beheaded three Iraqi Kurdish militiamen in retaliation for the cooperation of Kurdish political parties with the Americans in Iraq. The statement of their website said that they were “renegade military men, affiliated with the traitor Kurdistan Democratic Party” and that they were beheaded “for them to be an example to others, and for us to avenge our women, children and elderly who die daily from American raids."

From the sole source of the article. It leans the reader to think that Jaish al-Sunnah is against the Kurds. Cite otherwise or I will continue removing the faulted information. Izzy1985 10:59, 15 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

As I have already pointed out the Ansar al-Sunna is a direct descendant of the kurdish islamist goup Ansar al-Islam, which for several years was in armed conflict with the main kurdish parties in Iraq, KDP and PUK. This fact is also apparent from the introductory paragraph of the article, which says the core of ansar al-sunna is comprised of memmbers of the ansar al-islam, which nobody disputes was and is a kurdish group.. --Vindheim 17:03, 15 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Do not use the article as a reference for itself, you have 5 days to get credible resources before I notify the T-CT Task force. Izzy1985 22:14, 16 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Credible resourse provided on Kurdish membership, I am satisfied.Izzy1985 17:58, 17 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. Indeed. They a few weeks ago released a video of attack on a police station in Diyala province and there were Kurdish speakers in the videos. so yest there are Kurds in the organisation.

Could someone tidy up the references? I've included a couple which show how to get them in the form of footnotes instead of in-line links. LDH 10:55, 24 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Two errors/corrections needed[edit]

1) Ansar Al-Sunnah and Ansar al-Islam articles need to be merged. Ansar Al-Sunnah has officially changed it's name back to Ansar al-Islam. Just google Ansar al-Sunnah for any number of reports on this and the official statements.

2) There are currently TWO 'Ansar al-Sunnah' the group that signed onto the anti al-Qaeda Sunni pact was the 'Shari'a councils of the Ansar Al-Sunnah Army', NOT the entire group. The rest of the group is still in very good contact with the Islamic State of Iraq, and is the group that has changed it's name back to 'Ansar al-Islam'. hi. ansar al sunnah and all this militants groups are not a salafi because salafism is the true islam. the pure islam and all what this groups are doing is without any relation with islam . this is QOTBISM(sayed QOTB the father of modern TAKFIR ) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 196.217.160.175 (talk) 17:25, 27 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You should have linked Ansar al-Islam and Islamic State of Iraq. -- Petri Krohn (talk) 07:52, 2 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Operations in Syria?[edit]

Is the Ansar al-Sunna Battalion operating in Syria as part of the "south sector" of Tawheed Brigade in Darayya at the time of the Daraya Massacre related to Jamaat Ansar al-Sunna? The American made M-16 rifles they are using could indicate a connection to US occupied Iraq.

Change "In 2007, it split into two groups in 2007;" in the third line of the article to "In 2007, it split into two groups;" Ars3nic (talk) 13:17, 18 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Ansar al-Sunna[edit]

Ansar al-Sunna and Ansar al-Sunnah should redirect to a disambiguation page to choose between Jamaat Ansar al-Sunna and Insurgency in Cabo Delgado. Bzweebl (talkcontribs) 03:59, 20 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

This article needs the group's flag. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Flag_of_Jama%27at_Ansar_al-Sunnah.svg Throwaway865432 (talk) 16:47, 11 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. Where exactly would it be? ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 17:18, 11 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Throwaway865432 and ScottishFinnishRadish: I've added it in the infobox. – Finnusertop (talkcontribs) 17:27, 11 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Finnusertop, Thanks a ton. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 17:35, 11 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Finnusertop and ScottishFinnishRadish: It would look better if it was next to the logo. Just like on this page where the flag is next to the coat of arms. Throwaway865432 (talk)
Throwaway865432, that can't be done in the same way because the Iraq article uses a template for countries and this article uses a template for militant factions. Those templates treat logos/coats of arms and flags differently. Eggishorn (talk) (contrib) 20:10, 11 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Sufi Islamist factions[edit]

The only faction which practices sufi Islam which happens to work with Ansar Al Sunna is JRTN, yet it appears as if there are various factions with this ideology.

Not done for now: Website appears to be down, linking to an archived version can be done for sourcing, but not as a permanent external link. — IVORK Talk 02:25, 3 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
