Why is this page called subcompact car? I believed it was close to universal to call it golf-class cars? 2006-11-16 81.233.73.177/Håkan

US-centric. Like it says at compact car, the size class descriptions are by no means universal, and in fact relate principally to the market in the USA.

Support - BUT, with the merge going the other way. A quick bit of research shows that the term supermini is far more widely spread than subcompact, which doesn't seem to permeate outside of the USA. Grunners (talk) 15:00, 12 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose - Subcompact is an American classification which should not be combined with the current European classification, although a European Supermini section has been added to the Subcompact article showing European vehicles. Oppose - The term "subcompact" is clearly defined in the United States (see the EPA's vehicle size classifications here). On the other hand, the descriptor "supermini" is inherently an oxymoron - similar to "jumbo shrimp" - since most supermini cars are often neither "super" cars nor truly "mini" in size! Moreover, the origin of this term seems to be a "Boastful Superlative" that was cooked up for an automotive publication as a comparison to the original Mini, and not a defined term such as "B-segment small cars". For example, the MSN editorial What the Heck Is the B-Segment? does not contain the term "supermini" to describe the reviewed "subcompact" cars. Thanks!
