Most Wikipedians would prefer to just work on articles of their own interest. But if you have some free time to spare, here are some open tasks that you may want to help out :

RC Patrol - Keeping a lookout for vandalism. Cleanup - Help make unreadable articles readable. Requests - Wanted on WP, but hasn't been created. Merge - Combining duplicate articles into one. Wikiprojects - So many to join, so many to choose from...Take your pick!

Oh yes, don't forget to sign when you write on talk pages, simply type four tildes, like this: ~~~~. This will automatically add your name and the time after your comments. Hydrogen Economy

I don't have the technical knowledge to know if the person who deleted the material just thought it was duplicative or what? It seems to me that the article needed some reorganization, but I can't imagine just deleting all that stuff without any explanation!

By the way, what's your position on global warning? If people like Al Gore and Joseph Romm are to be believed, we should be spending as much on energy efficiency and research, and taking any and all steps to slow the burning of carbon (not to mention deforestation), or we will wake up in a very different (and not preferable) world in a couple of decades. I am agnostic regarding global warming. But even if global warming is not a problem, fossil fuels have several issues. Oil, used for transportation, plastics, and pharmaceutical supplies, is seemingly in limited supply. It is mostly controlled by monarchies and dictatorships in the Middle East. Coal, used for electricity generation, is pretty noxious (reading about what is happening in China with the rollout and their problems with Sulphur Dioxide). The whole world needs to wean off hydrocarbons. If you look at the numbers, given current technology, no one energy source will do it. We need everything: nuclear, renewables (wind, hydro, solar, geothermal, biomass), energy conservation. On the long term (50-60 years time) I hope solar will manage to do it all given nanotechnology advances. However, several indicators mention that the point where we will suffer an oil shortage will be far earlier (e.g. the Hirsch report [1]). -Quasarstrider 20:33, 25 May 2006 (UTC)

Energy portal & future selected articles

Hi! Over the past couple of months I've been spending much more time than I should developing the Energy portal, and intend asking for a portal peer review within the next day or so.

The portal provides a showcase for energy-related articles on Wikipedia. One of the most prominent ways is via a the selected article that is currently changed every 6 weeks or so. It would be good to increase this turnover, and with three Wikiprojects dedicated to energy-related topics and a good number of articles already written, I'd like to suggest that members of each Wikiproject might like to use the 'selected article' to feature some of their best work.

With this in mind, I'd like to suggest that your Wikiproject bypasses the normal selected article nomination page and decides collectively which articles are worth featuring - or these may be self-evident from previous discussions - and add short 'introduction' to the selected article at the appropriate place on page Portal:Energy/Selected article/Drafts, which includes further information. Your personal involvement would be welcome!
