Is the caption[edit]

"Nanendo at Kofukuji, a World Heritage Site in the city of Nara" correct? It used to just be "Kofukuji, a World Heritage Site in the city of Nara", and an anon. IP changed it. THere is no other reference to "Nanendo" in the article, so someone should look into this. siroχo 09:05, Jul 10, 2004 (UTC)

It's correct, at least, apart from issues of romanization (Nan'endō). Barely legible in the sign between the painter and the lantern (in the full-size photo on the image page).Fg2 20:37, Aug 8, 2004 (UTC)

Cities table[edit]

I put the cities and districts/towns/villages together into a single table (and changed a couple of macrons). If you like it, please copy it into the article. Feel free to improve on it.

Presently, template:Nara refers to a header (towns and villages); it could be changed to refer to the header Municipalities.

Municipalities[edit]

Isonokami Jingu, a Shinto shrine in Tenri.
Horyu-ji, a Buddhist temple in Ikaruga.

Culture[edit]

The whole culture section seems...wrong, doesn't seem to belong in an encyclopedic entry.. Rebuttal 16:38, 11 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. It's a funny joke-alike, but by far appropiate here. OhMyDeer 06:22, 7 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know what the section was like in 2007, but I am certain that it can't be worse than the the tray of dog shit that is currently being served in one sentence. It is an insult to the people of Nara that says "culture here hasn't changed since a period that ended more than 1200 years ago. Nothing else to discuss, so let's move on."
For now, I have copied over some text from the Japanese-language article. Once that is translated, we can hopefully expand upon it further. AtHomeIn神戸 (talk) 06:39, 1 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Economy[edit]

Having in mind that the source of the latest version, 08:34, 27 February 2007, has its source in ja:奈良県, the whole section will be reviewed:

>>Tourism, currently, is one of Nara's largest industries, due to the natural beauty, historical significance, and peaceful yet convenient location in the middle of the Kansai region.

Treated as one of the most important, but not the largest.

Strawberry and watermelon are the dominant agricultural products of the prefecture.

Nara has either a high share, or famed by those but these are not necessarily the dominant product of the prefecture.

Nara is a center for the production of instruments used in conducting traditional Japanese artforms, including calligraphy and tea ceremony.

Calligraphy brushes and ink are important local artcracfts. Tea instruments comprises of numerous items including bowls (see tea ceremony and links provided there for better presentation) and others produced from all over Japan, but also from China. Hard to prove Nara is a center for such production.

On an equal level with Yamagata Prefecture, Nara is one of the largest national suppliers of goldfish. The industry centers in Yamatokoriyama.

True.

Due to its rich history, Nara is also the location of many archeological digs, with many famous ones being located in the village of Asuka.

Admitting the description exist in ja version too, is it best fit here after all?

Politics[edit]

The following is removed:

  • Generally speaking, Japan's police are clean compared to counterparts in many other countries, but a lot of scandals have daunted Nara Prefectural Police recently. The most notorious scandal involving high police officials was revealed in 2001.

Japan's police is probably, and hopefully, as clean as it has to be, and, unfortunately, as dirty as it can be. I do not see a hard reference that can explain its comparison to other countries. I don't think its really necessary anyway. The second sentence - not to say that nothing ever happened, I do not see the rationale to keep it after 6 years of whatever happened and without any citation whatsoever. --OhMyDeer 08:43, 9 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
