I am fairly sure that at the time prior to Excalibur, when Magneto was running the Xavier Mansion, he once built a number of Widgets powered by his own magnetism. AFAIK that was their only appearance (some issue of Uncanny X-Men IIRC).

Does anyone remember that?

Retcon[edit]

In Widget's first appearance he was made out of an old tin of baked beans by the Crazy gang member Tweedledope who had the ability to make fantastic artifacts by crushing scrap metal with his bare hands. Tweedledope was dissatisfied with the results and discarded Widget.
