Socialist party of Canada[edit]

I moved the Socialist Party of Canada from active parties to former parties because there is no party still around in Canada named the Socialist party of canada User:whoneedspants May 22, 2009

Comment[edit]

From Wikipedia: Naming Conventions (to which we were referred):

Use English words Convention: Name your pages in English and place the native transliteration on the first line of the article unless the native form is more commonly used in English than the English form. Adam 11:41, 19 Dec 2003 (UTC)

see discussion of the names of organisations at Wikipedia_talk:Naming_conventions_(use_English). The main problem is that there isn't always an "official" English version. -- User:Docu
BTW. I like your current solution -- User:Docu

There is in fact very rarely an "official" English name for parties in non-English-speaking countries - why should there be? In an English-language encyclopaedia, however, we should give the most widely used English translation, and if there isn't one we should make one up. I don't know whether the party in question is most commonly called the Swiss Socialist Party or the Swiss Social Democratic Party (both are possible given that the party has different names in French and German), so one should redirect to the other. Disambiguation[edit]

I have removed all the parties that were not name "Socialist Party" except for those which were "Country Socialist Party" or "Socialist Party of country". This is a disambiguation - C mon (talk) 08:33, 6 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Capitalization[edit]

This article uses capitalization of "socialist party" when this article doesn't pertain to a specific socialist party, but rather to them in general, hence "socialist party" is not a proper noun, hence shouldn't be capitalized. I'm not an expert in linguistics, per se, so if I'm wrong feel free to correct me. Fuse809 (contribs · email · talk · uploads) 15:00, 29 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
