Does it exist ?[edit]

Is there a citation for one of these things actually being built? And how do you aim it into the wind? How do you build it at megawatt scale? Any kind of schematic picture would be *great*. --Wtshymanski 17:02, 22 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Didn't know there was an article for this. I contributed a picture from the patent.

You don't aim it at the wind. It's stationary and the wind blows through it. Meant for areas where the windflow is generally in the same direction, like mountaintops.
For megawatt scale you just build a long one. :-) He claims "For example, such a screen 100 meters high and 1,000 meters long; or a screen area of 10⁵ m²/km will generate an electric power output of 45 megawatts/km at about 100,000 volts DC." Of course, it's just a patent, so it doesn't necessarily even work.
I removed "it won't work in the rain" as I don't think that's true.
I left in "and it has to be well-crafted to reduce corona discharge losses", but I don't know if that's true, either. Have to think about that one... - Omegatron 18:20, August 10, 2005 (UTC)
