TV Dorama vs. Audio Dorama[edit]

TV Doramas and Audio Doramas are completely different! There should either be a disambiguation page, a totally seperate page titled Audio Dorama/Drama or the distinct meaning and characteristics of both should be made much clearer. --Xaliqen 09:27, 2005 Jan 23 (UTC)

Great, why don't you get that started in the opening paragraph and the audio section? Once there's enough material it'll be easier split up. There's already an audio drama page, maybe take that as a template?--24.114.252.183 22:33, 25 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Popular dramas[edit]

What is the point of the 'List of Japanese TV dramas' section? Shouldn't this be something more like a list of popular dramas as an example to the reader and not just a random list of dramas? (Granted, Beautiful life was a popular drama.)

The reader is better served with an external link to japanese drama related sites with drama listings and information. I've added one to jdorama.com, are there any more out there?

I agree, I would really like to know more about current dramas or how they are affecting the culture today.  :User:dianaleaney Dianaleaney (talk) 00:51, 4 April 2018 (UTC)dianaleaney[reply]

Wikification[edit]

I think somebody needs to go through this article and clean it up to sound more encyclopedic. Asking questions like "How do we come up with these ratings?" or whatever sounds like it was taken from an NHK pamphlet or something. Was it? We should get rid of all those references to 'you' as well.

Yeah. This article is heavy on "fan-stuff", but lacks a neutral description of the thing itself. --84.58.6.68 16:34, 17 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah I feel more like I am reading an essay rather then a wiki article. I will do some work to make is sound more neutral but I think with a job like this it will require three or so people to get it in a good enough state to remove the brand on it. Any way lets do our best to get it wikified.--Link25 08:33, 18 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've try to neutralize the "Why the dramas start...." into "Dramas's starting...". The first would have sense if you do know when they start... and most people don't. --85.48.107.0 14:38, 20 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Quality of Acting[edit]

Do we really need a section proclaiming that the quality of acting in Japanese Dramas is poor? Compared to what? American TV shows? Please. To insult the acting skills of the entire collection of drama artists because "some artists are not cut out for television acting" is ridiculous. 68.206.100.60 14:19, 19 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

However, excellent acting skills is not that common - and it isn't demanded by the Japanese drama fans.

And to me this is kind of insulting to the Japanese drama fans >_> --137.189.4.1 04:06, 23 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I believe the "Quality of Acting" section was written without any proves whatsoever. I watch Dramas of all languages, and I think Japanese dramas have the best acting, if there's one type of drama with poor acting, it'd be C-Dramas (especially Taiwan ones), but I believe Japanese actors and actresses are comparable with Hollywood movie actors.

These are valid concerns. We certainly don't need articles that are just expressing one editor's POV. It looks like the section you were concerned with has been removed, and rightfully so. Content should be properly sourced, per WP:CITE and WP:Verifiability, while keeping in mind the all-important WP:NPOV. Feel free join in editing this article, keeping in mind these policies, as obviously a lot of work needs to be done. --C S (Talk) 23:58, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think that you can find more Dorama infos in Chinese (Traditional) websites then English[edit]

just like日本偶像劇場 Because Taiwan has been ruled by Japan 50 years. Though that time there's no TV in Asia, the cultural influence is very much. And there are 2 CHs(always, also many CHs sometimes)broadcasts Dorama!--140.113.197.91 15:57, 30 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Meaning of Specific Ratings[edit]

There is nothing explaining the ratings percentage as a score, in terms of the number of viewers vs. market saturation, and what constitutes "good" ratings or "bad" ratings for any given program. For example, is 10% poor or average? What about 15%? (in today's numbers) The only hint is that 52.6% is "extremely good for an evening drama". Perhaps this information is too specific for a general article on the topic, but I think it would be useful. --70.142.54.36 13:03, 19 July 2007

1,actually morning dramas have a higher % than evening ones, the lowest is midnight dramas 2, today ,average rating is about 10% for evening, 3% for midnight, 15% for morning. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 112.86.158.121 (talk) 17:45, 7 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Grammar[edit]

Kudos to the people who wrote this article, it's well written. It does, however, need to be checked for grammar. There are some typos and grammatical mistakes throughou--24.109.190.76 17:10, 28 August 2007 (UTC)t.[reply]

Starting Time[edit]

This information is incorrect, as Japanese Dramas start exactly at 9, 10 or 11pm. D

Comedies?[edit]

How can comedy be considered a drama? Isn't that a contradiction? Brutannica (talk) 06:42, 20 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think you're right. The Japanese word ドラマ, although it came from the English word "drama", has since taken on a significantly different meaning in Japanese, more along the lines of "TV show". It's a fairly common phenomenon in Japanese (e.g. マンション, which came from the English "mansion" and now means something more like "high-rise apartment building"). Just using the original word is then a common mistake to make when translating the evolved word back to the language it originated from. I think that's what's happening here, and that "TV show" might be a better gloss for ドラマ. In other words, a change in title might be in order, although I don't really want to get involved in the Wikipedia drama ;) that accompanies such suggestions. 114.165.144.209 (talk) 13:03, 10 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

No I don't believe that it is. You have to think of "drama" as the overall category and comedy, romance, action, period, profession ect. as sub-categories. A lot of the recent (like in the last 3 or so years) dramas tend to be romantic-comedies like Hanazakari no Kimitachi e and Hana Yori Dango. --Pinkjulip (talk) 18:57, 3 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Difference?[edit]

So what exactly is the particular difference between a Japanese drama and any other American TV show? Other than the name? Does this warrant its own Wikipedia page?~ FollowTheSigns (talk) 21:32, 26 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Useful jdrama database[edit]

I wanted to add MyDramaList among the external links as it's a really useful and up-to-date dorama database, but Wikipedia is saying it's spam. I know the site isn't spam, and would love to know why this is happening. 37.163.240.161 (talk) 21:32, 18 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
