This article is partially locked, so I can't correct the math error. Can someone please fix the line in the opening section that says Swayze was diagnosed with Stage IV pancreatic cancer in January 2008 and died 8 months later? I don't know when he was actually diagnosed, but there certainly were more than 8 months between diagnosis and death. Inconsistency - can someone please edit?[edit]

In the second paragraph of the introduction, we are told that PS was diagnosed with cancer in Jan 2009, whereas in the paragraph about his illness and death we are told that it was January 2008.

Lede[edit]

Removal of second paragraph[edit]

User:Wesley M. Curtus removed most of the lede, which was later quickly reinstated by another editor. He has now removed it again. His edit summaries both claimed it should be in the illness and death section, but he has not moved any of it, he removed it. It makes the lead far too short and removes all mention of his cancer, which was a major part of his life (public, personal and career) last year and this year. More info needed[edit]

Today, a tag was added to the top of the article stating that the lede is not substantial enough; the tag has since been removed, although the lede remains the same. What specific information does anyone think needs to be added to it? Article improving (talk) 16:31, 16 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The second para of the lede is now in the Illness and death section. I believe the lede should mention his final illness at least briefly; it had a major negative impact on his career as well as his life, causing him to have to permanently cease filming The Beast midway through its first season. He also gave interviews in which he talked about his cancer and his condition received a great deal of media coverage during the last year and a half. In fact, it had been decided that there would indeed be a second season and it was after that decision was made, that his illness took a turn for the worse and he then could not continue filming. Category:American Christians[edit]

Patrick Swayze is linked to this category, but I do not see anything in the article supporting this claim. Could someone come up with some sourced evidence of Swayze's Christian beliefs? Otherwise, could the category tag be removed? It is not very informative, and seems merely speculative at this point. Thank you.

The article clearly states that the Swayze's were Roman Catholics... He also viewed his Buddhism's beliefs as a way to deal with his Father's death... Buddhism is not a Religion is a philosophy.

Forever Lulu[edit]

The movie called "Forever Lulu" (2000) has been released on DVD as "Along for the Ride" (2000). Not sure which is the correct title or whether both should be listed. High Times Magazine mistake?[edit]

I'm reading the December 2009 issue of High Times, and on page 14, there's a mini section about Patrick Swayze smoking marijuana.

Smoking comment appropriate?[edit]

The statement "Photos taken of a gaunt Swayze in the months before his death showed him continuing to smoke" seems unnecessary, and a bit morbid. I'm guessing its author was intending to showcase the diabolical addictiveness of smoking. However, I feel it doesn't really sell the anti-smoking message as much as it gives a pathetic, helpless picture of a man very near death.

Smoking, while obviously very harmful to one's health, is no longer strongly contraindicated when someone has stage IV pancreatic cancer. No reasonable doctor would tell him he would live much longer if he stopped smoking at that point, given the advanced stage and very low survivability of the disease. Telling someone to stop smoking after they've been diagnosed is like closing the barn after the cows have fled.

Furthermore, stage IV pancreatic cancer patients who smoke find comfort in smoking, and doctors largely encourage all possible comfort measures in diseases with such a poor prognosis. It may sound wrong to the general public, but it's a fairly common attitude in medicine. In light of this, I feel like the statement has a negative implication, and it's my opinion that it should be deleted.Mcvmccarty (talk) 03:38, 15 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I understand your point but look at the teen idol article it says "A teen idol is a celebrity with a large teenage fan-base. Teen idols are generally young but not necessarily teenaged." As the other 2 posters already noted, one does not need to be a teenager to become a teen idol. One needs to be a fan favourite of teenagers, to become one.
