Football League OneLeague OneWP:Common name states: "Wikipedia does not necessarily use the subject's "official" name as an article title; it prefers to use the name that is most frequently used to refer to the subject in English-language reliable sources." In the case of this article, the most common name is "League One". Sources: [1], [2], [3], [4], [5], [6], etc. WP:Precise states "titles should be precise enough to unambiguously define the topical scope of the article, but no more precise than that" - League One is precise enough as there is no other article on Wikipedia which uses that title, and the title is widely understood. • Strong oppose - League One is utterly, utterly ambiguous. The comment that no other article on Wikipedia uses the League One title is disingenuous at best; Scottish League One could just as easily be the intended target, as could anything else mentioned at League One (disambiguation). The only reason that "Football" is generally neglected from most of these sources is due to Sky Bet being located there instead, half of the time... Why on earth you moved this twice before opening the discussion, I will never know. Lukeno94 (tell Luke off here) 21:00, 31 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose - League One of what? Football League One is used to disambiguate between the other 'League One', as Luke points out above. JMHamo (talk) 22:40, 31 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Strong oppose - fails WP:RECOGNIZABILITY and spectacularly so. In ictu oculi (talk) 23:01, 31 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • I would like to note that League One seems to indeed have primary topic for League One (so it should continue to redirect here regardless of our discussion)--however, there's something to be said for an unambiguous title. But then again, Football League One isn't unambiguous. I'd support but I think another title may be better--English League One, perhaps? Red Slash 01:52, 1 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
    • "English League One" isn't either its proper name or a commonly used unofficial name, though, it would just be a made-up name for the sake of it. If that was the route we were going down it would need to use a formal disambiguator and be "League One (England)" or "League One (English football)"..... -- ChrisTheDude (talk) 21:30, 1 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Note: This discussion has been included in WikiProject Football's list of association football-related page moves. JMHamo (talk) 02:30, 1 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose - proposed title is far too amniguous. GiantSnowman 15:23, 1 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose this move, but I'd support the "League One (England)" or "League One (English football)" that Chris suggests. Lugnuts Dick Laurent is dead 07:52, 2 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • What would be the point of that move though? Better off keeping it where it is, than putting an unnecessary disambiguator in there though. I should note that I oppose either of the above moves as well. Lukeno94 (tell Luke off here) 18:13, 2 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • For the record, I don't support either of them either -- ChrisTheDude (talk) 19:31, 4 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Tin pot league[edit]

As a non follower of football, is 'tin pot league' a correct description. If so, does it need explaining further? Random56653 (talk) 16:23, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I've looked up the phrase and it seems to be derogatory, so I've removed it for now. Random56653 (talk) 17:41, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
and removed the rest of the edit that added the phrase. Random56653 (talk) 17:59, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
