Roanoke Missionaries to China[edit]

With today's boom in China, it is unusual that Roanoke had close contact with China via missionaries for decades... especially the two Carlyle sisters who grew up in (now gone) old Carlyle mansion next to Handley High School and spent their entire lives as missionaries in China ... (circa 1900--1960)

And also, for the Southern Baptist Convention was J Max MacMurrey who spent 24 years as a Missionary in China (1936-1960).

lost web site[edit]

the link to what is called the official website does not go to the web site that used to be there and that old clearly read web page had sections discussing each of the town depts and also worthwhile info of many kinds including ab local schools

what happened to that REAL official website as the present link ONLY goes to an ad like blank web page —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.250.201.190 (talk) 21:44, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Roanoke, name of town origin[edit]

Suggested as further history for the town Name as origin of town's name was debated for some time and some figured originated from Roanoke, Va with nearby some Va immigrants, ... but also the Algonquin tribe of Roanoke tribe Indians for which also Roanoke Island, No Car is named is suggested as the reason for town's name, esp as the Commander of the Fort at Roanoke Island, No Car during Rev War was Col Henry Meachum/Meacham whose son Rev Robert Meachum was pastor at nearby Rock Mills and his grandson Wm Banks Meachum was even closer to Roanoke, at Bacon Level community (3-4 miles SW of Roanoke) and early immigrants to this area. old rez and desc 'Roanoke Red'47.18.43.166 (talk) 19:53, 20 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
