Comment[edit]

Welcome Victuallers 18:56, 24 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have updated the site to include reference to Malvern Prep teacher and priest Richard Cochrane's sexual abuse case. I made this update a few times before, but each time it has been deleted. In the citations I have linked to both a record of this from the Philadelphia Inquirer and a second reproduction of an article from the Associated Press. Please explain your reasoning if you wish to take this reference down. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tollelege8888 (talkcontribs) 10:32, 18 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Once again the entry about priest Richard Cochrane has been deleted without any reason being provided. Please explain the reason you'd like to remove it, instead of simply deleting it, or I will request the editors lock the entry. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tollelege8888 (talkcontribs) 12:10, 28 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

For the third time over the past year I have had to add the section about Malvern Prep teacher and priest Richard Cochrane's sexual abuse case. Whoever is deleting the update, please explain yourself. Otherwise I will keep adding it, and eventually report it to editors. Tollelege8888 (talk) 09:28, 8 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Motto[edit]

Malvern's motto is "Learning Today, Leading Tomorrow" and not "Veritas Unitas Caritas." The latter was the theme for the 2004-05 school year.

Actually, the school changed the school theme to "Veritas, Unitas, and Caritas." This theme is no longer for just a single year. It now even hangs in the cafeteria on enormous banners.

Not true. Look in the Student Handbook and on the logo and you will see the motto listed as "Learning Today, Leading Tomorrow."

"Learning Today, Leading Tomorrow" is the motto. "Veritas, Unitas, Caritas" is the mission statement. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.103.160.24 (talk) 06:11, 23 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Notable alumni[edit]

I linked Ben Davis and removed the other as non notable. If they can get an article in here maybe include them? Any alums or current students want to give it a shot? Thanks --Tom 00:48, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism[edit]

Hey, guys. I just wanted to ask that you keep vandalism on the Devon Prep page down to a minimum. We haven't been messing with your page, so please don't mess with ours. I've already deleted the "poop" section that someone created, but please don't let it happen again. Thanks! -Anonymous Devon Prep Student —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 71.225.100.145 (talk) 20:09, August 21, 2007 (UTC)

Sexual Assault[edit]

In 1999, Richard Cochrane, a teacher and priest at the school, was arrested for assault of a 14-year old boy on a trip to the Poconos in June 1991. Cochrane pleaded no contest to a statutory rape charge and was sentenced in July of 2003 to 18 to 48 months in jail. Monroe Country prosecutors said they had evidence that Father Cochrane perpetrated a similar crime in 1990 with a student at Malvern Prep who was 15 at the time. Charges were not brought because the statute of limitations ran out. In both cases, according to prosecutors, the students were freshmen in Father Cochrane's religion class. They were both given enough alcohol to become intoxicated and they both alleged that Father Cochrane engaged in a sex act with them. The foregoing is sufficiently well sourced that it can't be removed without at least some discussion. I did take out the part about evidence that the police claimed to have - while this was reported in the Inquirer, it's just the police's claim about some "evidence" they (may) have, and in light of WP:BLP seems improper to include. That text and the following was also lifted directly from the article and as such had to come out (or be edited) anyhow. It is another matter whether this 15 year old, fairly thinly sourced and (as proven anyhow) isolated episode is suitable for inclusion here but that's another issue, and I suggest that interested editors discuss the matter here. I see that Tollelege8888 has asked editors multiple times to explain themselves. Since they failed to do so, provided his edits meet WP:BLP, they should stay and anyone reverting without coming to talk may be disruptive. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 12:47, 8 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
