I am glad you are contibuting to Wikipedia. In order to work effectively as a collaborative project, however, there are rules which users are requested to follow. You are supposed to discuss differences of opinion on the talk page rather than engage in an edit war, where users repeatedly revert each others changes. I hope that we can work together constructively to improve articles such as Yoweri Museveni. However, if you continue to revert changes without discussion and ignore the attempts of other Wikipedians to engage with you, then you may be banned from editing for a period of time. Sam is right - what Bamboo has done is not strictly vandalism. It is rather a NPOV dispute where Bamboo has violated 3RR, which also mertits a ban. Your edits[edit]

I have read through your edits to Yoweri Museveni over the last few weeks, and your comments here. I am impressed with your dedication, and your obvious knowledge of the history of the wars in Central Africa. Wikipedia is a collective project, with many editors, yourself included, very welcome.

If I can start with some easy places you can improve your style, it is the sentence per paragraph. If I can put it another way, if you persist in doing it, other people feel obliged to fix it, and while they are at it, they will read, fix, or revert your comments. So, a good way to make your edits 'stick' is to format them properly. A good way to get your edits reverted it is to remove nicely formatted (though, in your opinion, incorrect) comments and replace them with badly-formatted, unsubstantiated facts. The last two sentences hold true on any page in Wikipedia.

There is no cabal. We are all individuals - I am a (white) person, born in colonial Kenya, well-travelled through Africa, lived in the West, now living in South Africa. I contribute (as I can) to Zulu history. I have a great deal of respect for Banyantree - not that I know him beyond his documentation of Central African history. This is not a cosy corner of a pub, this is standing in front of thousands and justifying your contributions. I feel your pain over trying to substantiate your edits with references. Yes, the (documented) world is biased towards the West. Regarding Museveni's birthplace and parentage, for instance, I encourage you to put a short (50-100 word) /single paragraph/ together that includes as much true information as you know (including constitutional requirements), under a new heading, and submit it as an alternative view on the page. Even then it may not survive review. It will /never/ survive as three pages of rambling single paragraphs - even I will revert that.

I also watch Robert Mugabe's page, and am routinely taking out POV, unsubstantiated edits. I am no lover of Robert Mugabe, but if his detractors cannot tell me why they do not like him past the pub-corner hand-waving, I am obliged to remove it.

Please watch your style, stay on-topic (rambling about Iraq belongs somewhere else), and make easily-readable, concentrated edits. You will learn to love wikipedia as we do. Wizzy…☎ 20:56, Jun 12, 2005 (UTC)

Hey B, just thought I'd let you know that Yoweri Museveni is now on peer review as you have contributed to it previously. I thought now was about the right time, as it would be good to get a feel for the kind of things people will say in WP:FAC now, rather than pressing ahead with expansion and then having to change a whole load of stuff later.
