She competed in what sport? -- Zoe

Well, if she competed in a "single's tournament" (sic), that would have me guessing tennis, for what it's worth. -- JohnOwens 04:06 Mar 27, 2003 (UTC)

This page needs some work, baby! Big time work!! Antonio Superfly Martin

Wasn't she the first female olympic winner? Pelmeen10 (talk) 20:04, 9 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Deaf?[edit]

The mention that she had been deaf since the age of 26 seems like a strange afterthought in the sentence about when she died. IF that's true (it has no citations, but the same thing is mentioned on other sites) then she was competing in, and winning Wimbledon, and the Olympics, deaf. I have not checked, but is she the first, or even the only, deaf or handicapped person to win a major international sports event? I feel like this is an under acknowledged aspect of this woman's life. C.prettyman (talk) 16:50, 22 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It is true and there are now citations from multiple sources. An amazing achievement. Fyunck(click) (talk) 19:37, 22 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
