From what does he derive his title? RickK 03:02, 16 Jan 2004 (UTC)

Tonypandy seems to be a town in Wales, from a google search. Since Thomas was Welsh, I suppose this makes sense. It's possibly the greatest name for a peerage ever, imho. john 05:33, 16 Jan 2004 (UTC)

It was the site of a famous coalminers' strike in about 1910, in which (from memory) strikers were shot by police. It's a name everyone in the Welsh labour movement would know. Adam 05:45, 16 Jan 2004 (UTC)

Although it's pronounced "Ton-ee-pan-dee" so the "Tony-Pandy" I presume you're thinking of doesn't quite work. Timrollpickering 17:20, 24 Oct 2004 (UTC)
"Tonnuh-pan-dee" – /tɒnə'pændi/ – in fact. -- Picapica (talk)

Homosexuality?[edit]

Was it "revealed" that Thomas was homosexual, or merely claimed that he was? Has there been any verification of this - at the relevant time - defamatory allegation?203.184.41.226 (talk) 02:21, 25 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Having lent Thomas £800 to pay blackmailers, Abse obviously thought it was a fact. I don't think Abse's claim has been corroborated. But I'm not sure it needs to be. It may have been "defamatory" once, even during Thomas's lifetime, but not any more. 20.133.0.13 (talk) 09:26, 16 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Succession box - why?[edit]

What is the point of a succession box that does not illustrate a succession? What does it do if it does not list either predecessor or successor? And how does a senseless practice in other articles justify a senseless practice in this article? Other stuff exists, you know. Surtsicna (talk) 09:13, 16 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It's not senseless practice. In the case of hereditary peerage succession is or has been always possible (at least in theory). Succession box for 1st and only peer illustrates that the peerage wasn't inherited. --Editor FIN (talk) 14:36, 16 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
