Vandalism log

It is clear that this is a content dispute, not an act of vandalism, and it's turning into an edit war. What is the point of insisting on including fringe personalities who attended the university? I see you took it upon yourself to delete the list. Saddam Hussein and Mohamed Atta are absolutely not fringe personalities, nor is their time at Cairo University insigniificant in understanding the role of CU in the region. From what I can see, it's customary to include a list of notable alumni on articles about institutions of higher learning. It has been vandalism because whoever keeps deleting information from the page is unidentified and leaves no explanation or reason for their "edits" despite repeated requests/warnings. There is no evidence that the edits were made by only one person since they all came from different IP addresses (although I do agree that they should leave a note.) I also just checked a dozen different articles on universities around the world on Wikipedia, and found most of them to have a link to a separate article listing alumni. Instead of reverting back-and-forth, how about creating a separate list of alumni and make it broad enough so that the focus is not on personalities considered non-notable in the university's home country? Finally, to the last editor, please don't trivialize the issue by making comments like "if the uni has produced lots of unloved people, then that's life" which are unhelpful and uncalled for, not to mention the "lots" is based on no evidence. — Zerida 01:01, 4 May 2006 (UTC)

I did not say that they produced "lots" - I said that "if" that was the case, then it must be documented, rather than whitewashed. It is about a list of notable who have atteneded the university. I think a separate page for alumni is a reasonable idea. I'll start researching it. However, I don't think notability within Egypt should be an exclusive criterion. I would prefer to leave to Egyptian users or experts the task of identifying those notable graduates who went on to prominence in Egypt. CU really serves as a regional university, not a national one.
