Comment[edit]

I was born in Kirovohrad :) I will write here great article about this city :) I only need to find some information - it can be found only in offline sources, so I need a time.

Vitaly.

Kirovohrad OblastKirovohrad oblast – lowercase "oblast": just a common word, not a name Franta Oashi (talk) 13:50, 6 April 2014 (UTC) --Franta Oashi (talk) 13:50, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Strong Oppose. This is against consensus within the Ukraine WikiProject which has established the naming scheme for the articles. If you are to change just these 3-4 categories, then what about every single other page/article/category/template that links to other province names with uppercase "Oblast" versus the lowercase one? This is highly unproductive, it would be best to bring this up to the relevant board pages where all active Ukrainian Wikipedians can discuss this and can achieve consensus for the topic. § DDima 15:35, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Strong Oppose as per DDima. Proposition is brought by an user outside of Ukraine WikiProject and is totally random. The user has not done anything constructive for the Ukrainian articles and now proposes actions that were already discussed before. If the user commits to the Ukraine WikiProject it could be discussed otherwise this discussion should not be even considered. Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 17:57, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. Such tradition for provinces not only in Ukraine.--Anatoliy (Talk) 23:20, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Strong Oppose. The fact that "oblast" is a common word does not force us to write it lowercase. It is common in English to use uppercase common words, like in Smith County, Conwy County Borough or Halifax Regional Municipality, thus the request simply does not make sense — NickK (talk) 23:32, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Kropyvnytskyi[edit]

I know I am not part of Project Ukraine, but I was researching Ukraine in my free time and the article says that Kirovohrad was officially renamed. If that is the case, then shouldn't the page be moved to Kropyvnytskyi Oblast? TheFreezerFlame — Preceding unsigned comment added by TheFreezerFlame (talkcontribs) 21:37, 2 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The oblast (province) is not renamed yet. Only the city was renamed. In order to rename the oblast it is necessary to change the Constitution; the process of the changing began, but did not finish yet. Moreover now there is state of emergency (war) in Ukraine and changing the Constitution is forbidden during state of emergency. --D.M. from Ukraine (talk) 15:22, 5 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
