Untitled[edit]

I have folded in the public domain 1911 encyclopedia article, and added an extlink to one of the cited references. -- The Anome 16:50, 2 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Dunking[edit]

OED says "dunk" is a C20 US word. "Dunking" does not appear in LEME.

What is LEME? 173.90.75.20 (talk) 00:42, 26 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

 Oh, I found it: https://leme.library.utoronto.ca/ 173.90.75.20 (talk) 01:16, 6 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Illustration request[edit]

An illustration of a tumbrel would be helpful. -- Beland 21:03, 29 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Tumbrel links to the tumbrel page which has an illustration of one (although not very clear). I take the liberty of removing the reqdiagram tag. Egmason (talk) 08:02, 7 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Ducking[edit]

I think people searching for the article would find it more easy for it to be called "Ducking stool", rather than "Cucking stool". —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.229.224.133 (talk) 13:33, 14 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Wrong date[edit]

The date of the illustration dated 1896 is incorrect. Or misleading. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.228.171.237 (talk) 13:15, 30 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

In what possible way is this a "technical device"? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 163.151.2.10 (talk) 13:25, 5 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ducking stool[edit]

The ducking stool is according to this article used for the first time in 1597, but it is claimed, that it was used to identify witches in "medieval times". Medieval times ended by the 15th century.

How could it be used to witch testing a hundred years before it was invented?

And where is the source of it being used for witch testing? There is only sources of "swimming" being used. But that should not be in this article??? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Fightdane (talkcontribs) 18:26, 10 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hey! The reference to 1597 is to the word 'ducking stool', not the object: 'Written records for the name ducking stool appear from 1597'. Norvo (talk) 00:21, 26 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
