Welcome![edit]

Hi Saperaud, and a warm welcome to Wikipedia! I hope you have enjoyed editing as much as I did so far and decide to stay. Unfamiliar with the features and workings of Wikipedia? Don't fret! Be Bold! Here's some good links for your reference and that'll get you started in no time!

Most Wikipedians would prefer to just work on articles of their own interest. But if you have some free time to spare, here are some open tasks that you may want to help out :

  • RC Patrol - Keeping a lookout for vandalism.
  • Cleanup - Help make unreadable articles readable.
  • Requests - Wanted on WP, but hasn't been created.
  • Merge - Combining duplicate articles into one.
  • Wikiprojects - So many to join, so many to choose from...Take your pick!

Oh yes, don't forget to sign when you write on talk pages, simply type four tildes, like this: ~~~~. This will automatically add your name and the time after your comments. And finally, if you have any questions or doubts, don't hesitate to contact me on my talk page. Once again, welcome! =)

Not really unfamilar but nice to see greeting methods in the english Wikipedia. --Saperaud 05:01, 15 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Images of Earth[edit]

Why are you emptying Category:Images of Earth? I do not remember it discussed in WP:CFD. (SEWilco 04:26, 4 September 2005 (UTC))[reply]

I try to get an overview what's on commons and what has to be moved there. --Saperaud 04:48, 4 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Why does getting an overview require altering image classifications? Maybe you need a notebook. (SEWilco 05:10, 4 September 2005 (UTC))[reply]
Should the category only contain WP images, or should it contain any images which can be used in WP? (SEWilco 05:10, 4 September 2005 (UTC))[reply]
Answer yourself: what makes sense? Two shemes of image classifcation systems or one central? Image categories in Wikipedias can make sense because they help to show what this specific Wikipedia has more than commons or others. But there's Wikipedia:List of images/Places/Earth too, so we have three shemes. Who reads them? All article links are directed to commons. These categories are an interna of the english Wikipedia (and there are some internas it should really get rid of like Category:NowCommons) and I don't see why there should be any image from commons (see these smart links on top of the category). --Saperaud 05:24, 4 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know. Asked at Wikipedia_talk:List_of_images#Commons_separation. (SEWilco 05:33, 4 September 2005 (UTC))[reply]

Nowcommons[edit]

Heya, images that have been moved to commons aren't speedy deletion candidates; Just tag them with {{nowcommons|Image:Filenameoncommons}} and they'll get cleaned up in due course. --fvw* 23:53, September 4, 2005 (UTC)

Also, I've detagged Image:Earth-crust-atmosphere-cuta.gif but couldn't tag it as nowcommons as I can't find the image on commons. I assume that was why you wanted it deleted? Either way, just tag it with the appropriate {{db}} or {{nowcommons}}. --fvw* 23:53, September 4, 2005 (UTC)
Hmm in other wikipedias they are exactly that: speedy deletion candidates. But ok, I respect that consensus. The images I mark as speedy deletion are a, doubled or b, replaced by better versions. I can't say what's the first one (link?) but the second one is simply wrong, see Image:Earth-crust-cutaway-english.png. --Saperaud 00:37, 5 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Being wrong definitely isn't a CSD, but it's an excellent reason for taking it to WP:IFD. --fvw* 00:45, September 5, 2005 (UTC)
By the way, I might not read replies made only on your talk page; they're easy to miss for people with large watch lists. If you want to be sure someone reads your message either copying it to their talk page, replying only on their talk page, or putting an "I've replied on my talk page" notification on their talk page is a good bet. --fvw* 00:45, September 5, 2005 (UTC)
being wrong and replaced by a better version which is used everywhere. I'm German but that smells like bureaucracy even for my nose. --Saperaud 02:39, 5 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Night sky[edit]

I don't know of any others, but I do have a few shots which I'll get around to uploading soon --Fir0002 02:04, September 6, 2005 (UTC)

The licensing conditions are a bit complex because there are two copyright holders:

  • The work of art that I photographed, that is, the Nobel medal, has a copyrighted design. The artist who etched it died in 1966. We don't have the authorization of the artist for copying his work, but we can deem a photograph of the work to be fair use.
  • Since I am the photographer, I own the copyright on the photograph by itself, and I grant the use of the photograph under GFDL and CC-BY-SA.

Commons Images[edit]

You want me to upload my images to the Commons? Are you gonna make me? Huh? HUH? Hehe, just kidding. I suppose it is a good idea. From now on I'll use the Commons uploader program to do just that.PiccoloNamek 01:17, 3 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Halo Effect[edit]

The picture was originally taken by User:Haloeffect, and he released it under the GFDL. I noted that in the image's page.PiccoloNamek 07:50, 11 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Request for edit summary[edit]

When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labelled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:

Edit summary text box

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

When you leave the edit summary blank, some of your edits could be mistaken for vandalism and may be reverted, so please always briefly summarize your edits, especially when you are making subtle but important changes, like changing dates or numbers. Thank you.

As a hint, if you make interwiki links, say to german, you can write "+de interwiki" or simply "+de". Same if you link to commons. Cheers, – Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 23:30, 18 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Saperaud,

An image originally uploaded by you has been nominated for delist at FPC. See Wikipedia:Featured picture candidates/delist/Bunch of Grapes. Cheers, --jjron (talk) 15:56, 24 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Merger proposed[edit]

I'm proposing a merger on an article you worked on. Since the shelf clouds and roll clouds are subset of the arcus clouds, they should be integrated into the later article. This would make a more complete article instead of splitting the information among three articles. Anwer in Talk:arcus cloud.

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
