Citing sources[edit]

In response to the article being tagged for its lack of sources, I will try to cite facts and statements as best as I can. However, I have only contributed to the automotive and history sections, so that will be, by far, the easiest for me to cite. If anyone can help cite the motorcycle section, that would be wonderful. Also, I don't have too many off-line resources (nor did I use any whilst adding to the article), so all of my sources will be internet articles. Please help if you can. VonShroom 01:13, 19 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have a resource I would like to add to the Honda article. The resource offers both customers and product users alike the ability to view and add reviews of a specific company. The website does not include and advertising and is setup the same way wiki is, allowing for current users to adapt to the future system very easily. What would be your opinion on this matter? Rhalverson 21:04, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It is A Link normally to be avoided. Links to open wikis, except those with a substantial history of stability and a substantial number of editors and it Does not provide a unique resource beyond what the article alread contains. Sorry--Hu12 21:14, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The information provided would be unique and a non competition. Wikipedia does not offer a review section of products, infact those types of posts are considered spam. So your best advice would be to gather more users and more information on my site before posting it? Rhalverson 21:18, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
More users, more information, more time. I'd suggest a couple of years at the very least; as for users and pages, I don't know. Veinor (talk to me) 21:21, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Reverted due to vandalism[edit]

I reverted the article because it was vandalized. All instances of "honda" had been replaced with "toyota". Just plain stupid if you ask me. --Johnnydc 07:40, 12 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Honda & Toyota pages are different[edit]

The Toyota page's Infobox has a "products" section that lists the brands that Toyota makes. The Honda page has a list of product types (eg: automobiles and jet engines). I added the brands to the end of the Honda page but I think that someone should spend more time and rethink the infobox. Perhaps the "products" section should list types of products and there should be a "brands" section that lists the brands? I'm not really sure. --Neil Smithline 02:01, 12 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hero Honda in India[edit]

Hero Honda is not a Honda brand but an imitation. So dont include scooters and Hero Honda motorcycles in the product list. ExE (talk) 15:14, 10 March 2008 (UTC)--~PogoNoodle~ (talk) 22:53, 7 April 2008 (UTC) Hero Honda isn't actually an imitation. Hero Honda is its own entity but Honda and Hero Honda worked in conjunction to manufacture motorcycles in India. Honda has many smaller companies (affiliates) such as Hero Honda under its umbrella. Honda Lock Manufacturing was is a division of Honda that was split of into its own company. Honda Lock is still an affiliate of Honda. Honda North American Manufacturing is a separate company that is an affiliate of Honda. Honda R&D Americas is the same. That's the way that many Japanese companies work.OlYellerTalktome 17:49, 26 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Leadership[edit]

It says under the leadership, sub-heading, that the current president of Honda Company Ltd., is someone called "A.J. Splitty". I Googled that name soon after, only to find out that he isn't known. Did Mr. Takeo Fatui resign or something? Eventhough leadership has been edited to add the new President (Mr. Hachigo) but the intro box keeps Mr. Itoh. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 113.160.148.33 (talk) 02:07, 22 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Just for robots?[edit]

"However, human motions such as climbing stairs are difficult to mimic with a machine, which ASIMO has demonstrated by taking two plunges off of a staircase."

And people never have stair accidents right? Nobody on this site has ever 'taken the plunge'? --Technosphere83 (talk) 21:01, 13 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't like their part numbers. Have you ever noticed the part numbers for their bumpers and things? "SDA?" "SDI?" Are they the same part numbers for their robots?--76.248.231.90 (talk) 06:35, 18 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The first 3 letters of the part number indicate the model that the part was designed for. The following 5 indicate the part (those 5 also indicate where the part goes). The next 4 are the version. The last 2 indicate the supplier and their revision number (H1 = made by Honda and is the first version). You will never see part numbers on robot parts (yet I guess) as the part numbers printed on the part are for dealers and consumers. ASIMO is highly protected and I'm sure that Honda would never give anyone else the chance to catalog its parts. I'm also sure that ASIMO does have some sort of part numbers and I would be very surprised if they didn't follow the part number policy followed by the rest of Honda.OlYellerTalktome 17:49, 26 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Honda, second largest manufacturer in Japan behind Toyota with Nissan being third?[edit]

The citation makes no mention of this. I dont remember my source, but I'm pretty sure Honda is third behind Toyota and Nissan. At the very least, the misinformation that Honda is second should be removed until it can be verified. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.211.251.118 (talk) 08:50, 26 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

History section?[edit]

I was very disappointed that there is no history section in the article. I was curious to see when the company got started and how it developed before, during, and after World War II. Rag-time4 (talk) 08:33, 21 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that a history section should be written. At this point, I'm not sure how to go about it without simply rewriting all info at Soichiro Honda for the first bit of the history. After that, the history of changes in the organization are lengthy. I guess I'm just not sure how to go about it as the section will be incredibly long or hopelessly short and uninformative. For the time being, if you're looking for history, check out corporate.honda.com as has lot of the history behind Honda. It's very PoV but gets the point across.OlYellerTalktome 17:33, 26 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed, it's actually an embarrassment for Wikipedia in general that such a subject is so poorly represented. I actually thought I would need to follow a link to a stand alone Honda Automobile entry to get that history. Did Roger Stirling come in last night and wipe out this article? 76.95.33.253 (talk) 18:20, 23 August 2010 (UTC) (this is RoyBatty42, who can't remember his password today LOL)[reply]

At this point, the history section is too brief, and cites no sources. In particular would like to see more detail on their initial development of their line of cars, including their entering the American and European car market. Also, the section on motorcycle development is missing a crucial detail. It starts by saying that during the war he attached a motor to a bicycle. It then describes several steps that led to his first production motorcycle, but doesn't mention the war ever ending. I would like to know at what point in this process the war ended because it shows how the end of the war influenced his actions. —MiguelMunoz (talk) 22:01, 23 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hondura (Honduras Honda)[edit]

An anon recently made an edit adding that Honda goes by "Hondura" in Honduras. The comment was unreferenced and I can't find any references to back that up. The only thing I can find is that there's a Hondura Honda in Oklahoma City but that's just the name of the person who owns the dealership, not an alternate name for Hondas. I think it was perhaps a misunderstanding on the editors part. OlYellerTalktome 20:47, 13 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like a joke. I googled and didn't find anything, not even in Spanish. The website of the Honduras dealership doesn't mention anything neither. So, I deleted until a RS is provided.--Mariordo (talk) 04:24, 15 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

US-centric[edit]

Why is the model lineup just a dump of the US model lineup? Hint: this is Wikipedia English. English is an international language.--Rfsmit (talk) 17:30, 7 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This is extraordinarily US-centric. It doesn't even mention Honda's long association with British Leyland/Austin Rover/Rover Group at all. It is an unfair caricature to say that Rovers just were rebadged Hondas. Some were. Some weren't. No matter, it was an important part of Honda's association with Europe. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.254.88.77 (talk) 11:45, 5 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It also incorrectly states that VTEC was first introduced on the NSX, which was just the first USDM car to get VTEC. According to the VTEC page it links to in the same sentence, it was first introduced on the JDM Integra a year earlier. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 204.153.195.178 (talk) 16:30, 22 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Dollar denominations...[edit]

Hey guys,

I know you get brow-beat constantly about being incredibly "us-centric" but you need to get thicker skin. You can't seriously try to inform English readers about a corporation like Honda while giving their business results exclusively in Yen. It's preposterous. I'm an American but I assure you that Canucks, Limeys, Aussies and Kiwis would be delighted to see the key numbers denominated in something they can do the mental math in a second instead of looking up a conversion table. It should be about helping the user, not being afraid of being lectured by some easily offended scold. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.240.181.184 (talk) 03:46, 25 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

What about the 1970's?[edit]

The fact is that is was in the 1970's when Honda became what it is today. Before 1972 nobody thought much of them and no one seriously considered buying a car built by a motorcycle company. But when the OPEC oil embargo hit, people reconsidered the Honda, especially the Civic, which got 50 miles to the gallon. At that time American cars were gas guzzlers the size of Sherman tanks, and Hondas were suddenly very attractive. It was also at that time that Honda began to upscale their vehicles and the motor press began to give them high marks, especially since they were sill relatively cheap (due to the dollar/yen exchange rate?). I can remember when the Accord listed for $4,995.00 circa 1977 (equivalent to about $22,000 today), and was in such high demand there was a waiting list of 18 months. Honda's rise would have been like a baseball player being suddenly promoted from Single A to the major league club. This was the single most important time in the history of Honda, and its exclusion from the article is a rather obvious void. Are there any people out there who can correct this? __209.179.29.71 (talk) 16:59, 5 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Wuyang Honda[edit]

The article mentions only 3 joint ventures in China. What about Wuyang-Honda making motorcycles (eg CF190R aka CBF190 as sold in China, Singapore and South America)? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sejtam (talkcontribs) 12:01, 4 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Currency conversion error[edit]

1million yen is 8,600 USD. Not 5000 USD. Pretty significant difference. I cannot recall any period in the last two decades where the US dollar was worth roughly twice the equivalent denomination yen (I.e. 100¥) 220.218.219.177 (talk) 00:47, 13 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The bold 'Power equipment' hyperlink on the 'Products' tab should be moved to the 'See also' section of the article[edit]

In my opinion, the bold 'Power equipment' hyperlink on the 'Products' tab should be moved to the 'See also' section of the article as in my opinion it looks strange having a hyperlink within the main body of the article. Xboxsponge15 (talk) 15:01, 6 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

MOS:LINKSTYLE says to not put links of any type in section headings. So I changed that external link into a reference in the first sentence below the heading.  Stepho  talk  03:04, 10 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Article issues and reassessment[edit]

This article may have been prematurely assessed.
  • Citations: The criteria #1 states; The article is suitably referenced, with inline citations. It has reliable sources, and any important or controversial material which is likely to be challenged is cited.
  • The criteria includes The article is reasonably well-written.. The list of categories includes "Articles with disputed statements..." and "Articles containing potentially dated statements" which does not seem indicative of "well-written. The article has been reassessed pending the resolution of issues. -- Otr500 (talk) 23:36, 10 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The wikitable in the "Corporate profile and divisions" as well as the layout of the "US sales" and Production numbers wikitables leaves too much blank screen so could be better organized. It seems to me that there just are too many Illustrations. -- Otr500 (talk) 06:49, 12 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
No problem with the re-assessment. But why is whitespace evil? Clarity is better than density.  Stepho  talk  09:21, 12 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Reply: I just feel that a layout can be presented that doesn't have big blank ("whitespace") areas. Of course, clarity is optimum but an option that includes clarity, while not having wasted space, would seem to be better. I am not really proficient at adjusting the layout so it would be a time-intensive experiment. Thanks for the comments, -- Otr500 (talk) 18:41, 13 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

External links[edit]

There are six entries in the "External links". Three seems to be an acceptable number and of course, everyone has their favorite to add for four. The problem is that none is needed for article promotion.
  • ELpoints #3) states: Links in the "External links" section should be kept to a minimum. A lack of external links or a small number of external links is not a reason to add external links.
  • LINKFARM states: There is nothing wrong with adding one or more useful content-relevant links to the external links section of an article; however, excessive lists can dwarf articles and detract from the purpose of Wikipedia. On articles about topics with many fansites, for example, including a link to one major fansite may be appropriate.
  • WP:ELMIN: Minimize the number of links. -- Otr500 (talk) 06:36, 12 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It would be best to ask about it at a dedicated automotive forum rather than here. See WP:TALK#TOPIC for details. Blake Gripling (talk) 02:40, 13 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
