Evidence[edit]

Reference N° 62. There is no mention of David Hilbert on that source. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 190.1.47.224 (talk) 19:07, 25 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

"Recent analysis, however, indicates that he was ahead of his time and used a more flexible approach than his contemporaries, which mystified many of them." What recent analysis? By whom? When? This should have a source. Tpkatsa (talk) 19:53, 15 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I think it's difficult to briefly summarize the fairly extensive discussion in the Emanuel Lasker#Assessment section, but this part of the lead could probably be improved. I'm not sure that that sentence is the best bit from the assessment section to put in the lead. Quale (talk) 22:51, 15 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Birth place in Infobox[edit]

@Oliszydlowski and GiantSnowman: I was following this earlier edit. But it is true, I do not know of an explicit rule that would require this; it only seems natural, given the abbreviated nature of everything in the infobox. Bruce leverett (talk) 05:00, 4 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

 • Well, there's definitely an accessibility guideline that discourages use of ... in an infobox: see MOS:SMALL. Like many wikipedia guidelines this wasn't delivered from the heavens chiseled in stone, so there's no reason to expect anyone would know that wikipedia has made that style decision if they hadn't run across it before. I used to use smaller text occasionally in infoboxes before I realized that this was a no-no. Given pause to reconsider, I saw that I agreed with the rule and stopped. Quale (talk) 06:51, 4 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Why not just link to the German name of the place as it was then? If anyone is really interested they can click on the link and get redirected to Barlinek. MaxBrowne2 (talk) 07:32, 4 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
We wouldn't say that Jesus was born in Israel/Palestine, or that Caesar was born in Italy etc. - we use the historically relevant name. GiantSnowman 10:37, 4 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox Photo[edit]

The infobox photo is an elderly Lasker. He was most famous when he was younger and the reigning world champion. Would it be better to use a photo of a younger Lasker? 74.71.17.99 (talk) 21:21, 19 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

He had an extraordinarily long career in chess, and at the time of the photo (1929), he still had some major tournaments to go. I do not object to the infobox photo we are currently using, but if you have a particular one in mind, let's discuss it. Bruce leverett (talk) 00:43, 20 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
