Governor Section Needs Work[edit]

The second paragraph under "Governor" is completely negative and poorly written, with no citations. The things mentioned could have been written with a little less of an editorial tone. I am loathe to correct it without some citation of sources for the many assertions of the paragraph. Why the above assessment was limited to the second paragraph is beyond me. The entire section should be removed until rewritten in a grammatically correct, Non-POV style, . There are many run-on, non-sentences such as:

"Related to his later Federal legal conviction in the United States District Court for mail fraud and racketeering, involving certain friends and the transfer of racing days for the former Rosecroft Race Track in Prince George's County, although overturned later by a Federal appeals court on several grounds, which initially besmirched Gov. Mandel's reputation and legacy, even after he had served some time in a minimum-security Federal prison camp."

or:

"Further north by the shores of the Patapsco River, around the old hoary 19th Century Victorian decoration of the City Hall of Baltimore with its Beaver Dam marble corridors by the domed rotunda of stained glass skylights of Baltimore symbols and scenes, outside the City Council chambers of elaborate carved wooden antique mahogany desks, protected by brass rails, brocaded velvet curtains and wood-paneled window shutters."

As well as sections that have absolutely nothing to do with Mandel or his administration such as:

"This scandal came on the heels several years after ..." (followed by a bunch of sloppy drivel about Republicans, Richard Nixon, Watergate, etc, etc). On the heels several years after? Really? Incomplete introductory paragraph[edit]

Shouldn't the introductory paragraph mention (and the rest of the article) emphasize the "bad" side of him more? I mean it's pretty light on him.

Mandel is a member of the "United States Democratic Party" in the introductory sentence. Shouldn't the sentence say he was the umpteenth governor of Maryland and the second or third or fourth convicted governor? What is this "United States Democratic Party" anyway? As described in the article, Mandel's sentence was commuted (by a president of an opposing party) and his conviction was overturned. Wikipedia is to include info from reliable sources. If you have specific sources, feel free to point them out so editors can use them to add content. I updated the party link to which you referred. Other countries also have Democratic political parties, a "national committee" provides leadership, and states have their own groups to promote the party locally. —ADavidB 18:59, 5 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This article is a colossal mess[edit]

First of all, most of it reads like an advertisement for the ex-governor. There is a tremendous amount of extraneous material and worse, many sentences like the following: "During the 1979 state elections, the loss of pleasant, mild, inoffensive patrician Blair Lee III from Montgomery County in his ill-fated primary campaign to elevate his lieutenant governorship to a full term on his own merits fell resoundingly flat in the anti-corruption, anti-incumbent wave that swept the voters in that year's Democratic Party primary election, and as a former, powerful, old South Baltimore's long-time State Senator Harry J. ("Soft Shoes") McGuirk, with his wavy silver-gray pompadour hair style, luxuriant white drooping mustache and well-fitting pin-striped suits and often with contrasting leather-colored shoes (in the old by-gone "spats" style) who also was of the post-war era with the governor from northwest Baltimore and also learned the levers of power and influence in the House of Delegates with its own unique traditions, with its smaller districts, larger membership, more frequent elections and only two-year terms."

Yes that's a single sentence. One of many similar. Someone with greater interest in the topic (but not a member of Mr Mandel's personal staff or family) needs to step in and revise this article. ConradArchguy (talk) 00:20, 5 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
