Purpose of this category[edit]

I'm wondering what the purpose of this category is. I would think that any person who is worthy of being written about on Wikipedia is a celebrity (in some sense of the word).

In any case, the single word 'Celebrities' seems too vague to describe a class of people. If it is meant in familiar sense of people who get written about in tabloids, for instance, then that should be more clearly expressed in the category title. --Saforrest 17:41, Sep 14, 2004 (UTC)

I wonder who created the category "Spouses of Israeli politicians" and why, or "Agoraphobic Celebrities". Why not Arachnophobic any all other phobias? -- Guest (July 28, 2006)

Words such as "famous" (FAME ???) and "worthy" are not applicable in the definition of "Celebrities." The best definition is that of Dr. Irvine Page: " A celebrity is a person who is usually seen in the presence of 'celebrities' "!!!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.110.191.22 (talkcontribs) 17:10, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
