It is so bizarre that some guy has opposition against spliting the Sitcoms category into a subcategory Black sitcoms hence the overload in the sitcoms category. --SuperDude 02:07, 5 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

People in the Wikipedia are, for some reason, highly scared of anything that acknowledges race. They prefer to not mention the subject at all, which I see as highly bizzare, especially in cases where a person is a major figure within their community. This category seems to serve a decent purpose...why isn't it populated?--FuriousFreddy 17:40, 19 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I'm just guessing here, but I think political correctness probably plays a big role in that. In the US, the media will bend over backwards to say that a famous person's black, and non-white people tend to emphasize their ethnicity/race much moreso than white people. One hears a lot of things about black hockey players (there aren't many) but not about white running backs in the National Football League (to the best of my knowledge, there aren't any!). Similarly with comedians, Chris Rock and several others are very up-front about being black, but there aren't many white comedians who include much race-related discussion in their routines. So it's not really necessary to have categories like Category:White hockey players, Category:White NFL running backs, or Category:White comedians, because others tend to associate those people's names with their professions rather than with their races or both. However, some editors here think that it violates NPOV to give a subcategory of something to blacks but not to whites. I tend to disagree with race-based categories and instead favor nationality-based categories myself. --Idont Havaname 21:16, 12 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The reason there isn't a category for "white sitcoms" is because "sitcoms" are the product of "whiteness". Therefore, it's very redundant to have a category for "sitcoms" then a subcategory for "white sitcoms": they're s synonymous. And, that goes for "white comedians", "white NFL running backs", and "white hockey players", all of these are the product of "whiteness".

Just the same, I don't believe you have ever seen a category called Category:Black funk musicians, or Category:Black hip hop artist, or Category:Black jazz musicians, or Category:Black disco artist. The reason is, these musical forms are the product of "blackness". And, only an extremely stupid person would question, "why no category for black jazz musicians": it's a STUPID question.

But, I feel your pain, and I respect your stupidity. Here are some categories that are not the product of white people, and it probably make sense to start:

if you read the entertainment section of the paper regularly (especially lately with the UPN/WB merger) you'll see the ocassional article about this topic. Most sitcoms, in fact most TV shows in general, have predominantly white casts and producers. Its more of an issue for sitcoms because humor can be more subjective than drama. Sitcoms with mainly black casts have had more trouble becoming hits so its worth having a category that lets people find them as opposed to just lumping them all together.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Spookyadler (talk • contribs)

I'm black and like this list/ why can't other genres be like this?[edit]

I like this list makes it easier to find the shows I like based on the title, and the info of the show someone did a great job - I wish more tv and movies would be like this because it seems like some tv shows are not in the correct category-
