OpenTalk is an open source teleconferencing software that is written in Rust in the backend and JavaScript/Redact and Redux in the frontend while the streaming is based on WebRTC. [1] It is developed by the German company OpenTalk GmbH in Berlin. The company is associated with the Heinlein Group, which runs the privacy and security oriented email provider mailbox.org.

General features of teleconferencing software as audio and video streams, screen sharing, chat, voting, show-of-hands, break-out-rooms are present. The software is develeped as open source software under the EUPL license and available on the openCode plattform. It is designed to be privacy respecting and compliant to the GDPR. As OSS it can be self hosted or booked as SaaS. [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] Additionally fuago is redistributing OpenTalk. [8]

The software is aimed particularly at companies, plattforms and public authorities that want to break away from US providers such as Zoom, WebEx or MS Teams. [9] [10] [11]

OpenTalk has a strategic partnership with the sharing and syncing solution OwnCloud. [12] Another partnership with mgm, aims at integrating OpenTalk into their A12 business application solutions software. [13] OpenTalk is also part of the Open Telekom Cloud of the Deutsche Telekom. [14] [15] [16] [17] [18]

OpenTalk currently is conducting a CC-EAL4 certification by the German Federal Office for Information Security [19]
