However, I strive to make it better, and encourage anyone with expertise or fervor to add your two sestertii. I ask only that if anyone wants to make major changes, please discuss them here first.

I do have some issues I need to fix, like linking Dioscurides to someone other than the Wikipedia entry, as it refers to a different man. I also need to fix the formatting to have it conform to Wiki standards (such as italics, citations, etc.) as well as to make it more readable and asthetically pleasing. There is an article on Dioscurides, the Greek physician. Although Dioscurides, the favored sculptor of Augustus, is not prominently known, should I create a disambiguation page for the two, and on that page, briefly mention the sculptor, and perhaps throw in a link to the gemma, or even request a page of his own? This article is well done!! I did an extensive paper on this gem and its history a few years back that might be useful to this article. I can also improve on the list of sources too. I'll dig up the paper and post sections of it here - --KeithatET (talk) 13:05, 9 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Measurements[edit]

I agree it is a good article, but - like very many Wikipedia articles - has one great flaw: the measurements. Why are the measurements in inches ONLY? Is it really fair - or appropriate for an encyclopaedia - to force readers to use converters?
