Unless his first name from birth was "Captain", I believe this should be moved to "Samuel Holland". -- Infrogmation 18:43, 13 Nov 2004 (UTC)

There is a lot of wrong information about Samuel Holland's early years in the Netherlands. He was NOT born in Nijmegen but in Deventer and not in 1728 but in 1729. He was baptized on 22 September 1729 in the small Lutheran Church in the Dutch town of Deventer in the Province of Overijssel. The city then had a population of about 7000 (today 95.600). He was the son of Johan (Jan) Holland and Johanna (Janna) Buiker. More information about those early years can be found on my web page at: http://www.lowensteyn.com/Samuel_Holland/

Aimé Laussedat[edit]

According to BCGNIS, Aimé Laussedat was the "originator of the science of photo-topography." (A.O. Wheeler) [photo-topography is now called photogrammetry - the science of making maps using aerial photographs] " - see this cite - so I'm wondering what the distinction was between the credit given here to Holland, and Laussedat's creation?Skookum1 (talk) 16:12, 7 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Royal Americans vs Royal Engineers[edit]

The link to Royal Engineers is a different regiment of the British Army than the Royal Americans. Is he on the Royal Engineers roster or is a different context of that term meant here than its regimental one? captain lieutenant...[edit]

The article currently says Holland was promoted to "captain lieutenant". So, what is a "captain lieutenant"? Was this really a British rank? Geo Swan (talk) 17:12, 4 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
