What a piece of crap this site is. Half of the 'article' is just propaganda from the local fascist and socialists politicians. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 201.212.143.113 (talk) 18:32, 9 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

All this information is wrong and malicious. This is not rosario city but the popular socialist party city . signed biscione. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 201.212.143.113 (talk) 18:48, 9 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Notable people[edit]

I'm trying to get this section going. Two many red links there. BTW Liliana Herrero is from Villaguay, Entre Ríos, not Rosario, [1] even though she came to live here. Do we include those too? When do we stop? --Pablo D. Flores 15:08, 6 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

And Gabriel Heinze is from Crespo, Entre Ríos, I'm taking him out of the list.

It's nothing but my humble opinion, but I think the list might be lacking criteria if it includes Lalo de Los Santos as a notable musician, but fails to acknowledge his peers Fandermole or Abonizzio, or even Goldin. The fact that he died doesn't make him any more important, and the bottom line is that his songs are not as well know as are those of other people form the same origin.Tariuk 13:12, 30 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's not failing to acknowledge, it's just we forgot. :) If you can write about them, please do so; I have no idea where to get information about them. Thanks for noting this. —Pablo D. Flores (Talk) 17:15, 30 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Foundation[edit]

I just realized that the article clams no proper foundation date exists. es:Rosario (Argentina) says that even though Juan Romero de Pineda is considered to be its founder, there was already a small village in that place. Even if questiones, the official date of foundation seams to be December 27 1689.

Perhaps this can be better explained in the text of the article. Mariano(t/c) 15:42, 23 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I haven't heard of this Romero de Pineda guy. Of course, there were people over here, but I'm pretty sure Rosario as such did not exist at that time. I'll have to check. FWIW, the no-founder tradition is common knowledge in the city, to the point that the official celebration of the city is done on the day of the Virgin of the Rosary. --Pablo D. Flores (Talk) 17:52, 23 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
PS: In fact RdP was granted the lands by merced real, and the first inhabitants were those of his estancia, but there was no foundation document and no formal authorities until much later. So RdP was among the first inhabitants of the region, but not a founder in the strict sense. A part of the land was acquired later by the Jesuits. Based on my very quick search, RdP is considered just a guy who got some lands and workers to work them, but did not intend to found a town. Given the tendency of the Spanish settlers to get everything by the book (and into the books) with regards to the legal aspects of new towns, which RdP did not do, I'd say he's not the founder. The real story, of course, could and should be told in the article. [2], [3] [4] --Pablo D. Flores (Talk) 18:04, 23 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Situation map[edit]

Situation of the city of Rosario

This is a proposal for the format of the Situation maps for Cities and places in Argentina.

The original map is not very good (it lacks of rivers and geographical accidents), but we don't have any better one. Send me an e-mail if you want me to send you the PSD or XCF project. Mariano(t/c) 12:07, 26 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Pictures of Rosario (IMPORTANT)[edit]

As you may have noticed, I just got a digital camera and started taking pictures of basically whatever crosses in front of the lens. If you have other pictures of Rosario, please upload them at the Wikimedia Commons, and tag them with [[Category:Rosario]]. The category has every good/worthy picture I've taken so far. --Pablo D. Flores (Talk) 23:05, 1 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Be careful, he has a camera, and he's not affraid to use it!!! Mariano(t/c) 08:25, 2 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Missing[edit]

Some things missing from the article:

  1. A comment on the stratospheric... erm... fast train Buenos Aires–Rosario–Córdoba (should wait for the actual bidding of the contract).
  2. The use of GPS units in buses.

I might be taking care of this if/when I get good sources to work with. —Pablo D. Flores (Talk) 12:31, 18 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Major Event[edit]

what about the Rosario Derby between Central and Newell's? i think it's the main event of the city for what it means to the people and culture of Rosario.

I don't think so. There are other bigger events. What about "Feria de las colectividades"? Crumble2.0 22:45, 6 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Why isn't there a Rosario Disambig?[edit]

There are so many places, people and things named Rosario, we need a disambig page, right? Arthurian Legend 23:18, 25 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Rosario, Santa FeRosario, Argentina — Facebook is reading this article and not displaying Argentina, only Santa Fe Hterrazzino (talk) 21:08, 11 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Question. Please clarify what you mean by, "Facebook is reading this article and not displaying Argentina, only Santa Fe". Thanks. --Born2cycle (talk) 23:10, 11 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

When you select from city, it is displayed Rosario, Santa Fe. It should display the country, Argentina -Hterrazzino (talk) 21:08, 13 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There are no other Rosario's, the other cities have other words before or after the word Rosario -Hterrazzino (talk) 21:08, 13 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose What's the point? Honestly, who cares what Facebook does? -- Alexf(talk) 00:28, 12 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well... some people cares... -Hterrazzino (talk) 21:08, 13 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Is the most important city of the province of Santa Fe -Hterrazzino (talk) 21:08, 13 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose The naming convention for Argentina states Where possible, articles on places in Argentina use Placename. Where disambiguation is required, City, Province is used, except for provincial capitals which use City, Argentina. Rosario may be the largest city in Santa Fe, but it isn't the capital. The article therefore goes under Rosario, Santa Fe. Skinsmoke (talk) 17:30, 15 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Rosario, Santa FeRosario, Argentina – Per Wikipedia:Naming conventions (geographic names)#Argentina, the first method of disambiguation for Argentine cities and towns is Argentina, not the province. This is of course if it is the only populated place in Argentina with that name. For the case of Rosario, it seems that it is. Paul Vaurie (talk) 00:10, 3 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment Move to Rosario - there are actually 7 cities called Rosario in Argentina, all in different provinces (Santa Fe, Santiago del Estero, San Luis, Neuquén, Jujuy, Córdoba, and Catamarca). - Ïvana (talk) 05:03, 3 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Ïvana: I would love to see where you found that information, because I cannot find those towns that you refer to. By the way, El Rosario and Villa Rosario are not the same name as Rosario. Paul Vaurie (talk) 07:38, 5 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Paul Vaurie: Yes on closer inspection I was also unable to find some of those (for example Catamarca has a place called El Rosario, not Rosario). Couldn't find anything for San Luis and Neuquén (found this for Jujuy but I think it literally refers to the church). Still, I could find these ones: Córdoba, Santiago del Estero. - Ïvana (talk) 12:44, 5 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Ïvana: Thank you. After further analysis, I think that a move to just Rosario would be appropriate. About the places in Santiago del Estero and Córdoba— it seems that neither place has an article on the Spanish Wikipedia and are nowhere to be found on my version of the Internet. They don’t seem to be legally recognized towns or places and don’t have a population as far as I can find. They shouldn’t be a factor if we were to disambiguate to Rosario, Argentina. But as I said, I now find Rosario to be an appropriate move since it’s already a primary redirect. Paul Vaurie (talk) 16:23, 5 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Paul Vaurie: Sounds fine by me! I updated my comment. - Ïvana (talk) 19:43, 5 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Move to Rosario, which is currently a primary redirect. No need for the extra disambiguation. 162 etc. (talk) 17:21, 3 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Move to Rosario per 162 etc. -- Necrothesp (talk) 14:18, 5 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Move to Rosario - seems to be an even more appropriate move considering it's the primary redirect already leading to here. WP:PRIMARYTOPIC is already established. Paul Vaurie (talk) 16:27, 5 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
