Secret?[edit]

Neither the existence nor the composition of HV-016 are secret. They have a web page and recruitment videos on YouTube, and a Google search for "HV-016" on mil.no returns more than 200 hits. Like the rest of the Norwegian Home Guard, most of HV-016's members are volunteers with civilian day jobs, although they are far better trained and equipped.

HV-016's counter-terrorism mission is not speculation either; it was created specifically to assist civilian authorities in counter-terrorism and counter-sabotage activities.

HV-016 also has ceremonial duties; for instance, here is a video of a detachment from this allegedly super-secret unit giving Her Majesty Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands a 21-gun salute on the occasion of her state visit in June 2010. The officer in charge (in layman's terms, the guy yelling "fire!") is a friend of mine, and an electrician by trade.

"It was not a counter-terrorism unit,[citation needed] as this is considered the duty of Beredskapstroppen and Forsvarets Spesialkommando (FSK)."
