Interest in revising article[edit]

I am interested in editing this article because Latin American women face many injustices, including a lack of bodily autonomy in many places. Reproductive rights are an important step in empowering women all over the world. I would focus my attention on discussing individual countries in Latin America rather than referencing at as one homogenous region. I would also dive deeper into the reproductive rights of migrant and indigenous women.

Dml108, Perhaps you meant to post this at Reproductive rights in Latin America, (and post what you posted there, here!). I encourage you to improve both articles!
As for the "examples by region" section, check out the overlap with Environmental justice#Around the world. I've been wondering how to handle that section (and this one), because there's so many cases that it's overwhelming to list them all. Even a section for every country would be 200 sections! I think it might be best to provide very broad regional overviews? I've also wondered if it makes sense to essentially duplicate things here and there? Happy to hear your thoughts, and I hope you'll make some contributions. Larataguera (talk) 05:51, 16 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Larataguera, Thank you so much for bringing this mistake to my attention! These are two articles I am very passionate about. You bring up a good point about the practicality of listing them all. I agree that it would be wise to provide an overview of the regions rather than divide it by country as long as it was has holistic as possible. It could include broad overarching patterns with a few examples for each region. Should the regions be broken down by continent or subdivided into more distinct regions? Dml108 (talk) 23:02, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Dml108, I think it's probably best to break it down by continent. If there were good articles about each continent, we could bring information from those articles to here. For example, we have Environmental racism in Europe, but unfortunately that article is terrible. Almost everything we have about environmental racism in Europe is about Romani people. (Certainly worth talking about, but not at the expense of everyone else!) Similarly, we have Environmental issues in Africa, but that article needs a lot of work to integrate information about injustice and conflict (see this edit.) A lot of relevant content on Wikipedia seems to get framed as Environmental issues, which has a lot of country-specific articles. This framing allows discussion of the environmental degradation without treating the unequal distribution of burdens/benefits. This is a major problem that probably results from systemic bias.
So it would be a big job to pull together a broad overview of global environmental racism/injustice even for one continent, because most of the information is not present on the encyclopedia. I suggest the best structure would be to create broad overview articles like Environmental injustice in South America and then use broad overview books like Environmental Justice in Latin America to fill in the gaps. (We do have Environmental history of Latin America which may contain useful information and sources.) Depending on your capacity and interest, it might be reasonable to tackle a single one of these articles rather than the whole world! – at least at first.
As a side note, there's some inconsistency in use of "Environmental justice" vs. "Environmental racism". I would slightly prefer the former for broad overview articles, because it's a broader term that includes more people. Accordingly, it is more commonly used in scholarship. (That doesn't mean we shouldn't ever use the term "Environmental racism" or have articles about it, but we wind up with many articles having duplicated content if we aren't careful, which I personally don't like. Others may disagree.)
Sorry if that's a lot of information all at once. Of course none if it is a directive, and you can do whatever you think is best, but I have thought a lot about how this topic is represented on Wikipedia, and have tried to condense that thought as best I can here. I hope it helps!Larataguera (talk) 16:16, 18 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for the mistake! Here is the post I meant to write:
I am interested in editing this article because this is a topic that care deeply about as it has profound impacts on the healthcare and capabilities of people of color. I would like to expand on the "Examples by Region" section to cover include a more comprehensive overview of a variety of countries. I would also like to build on the "Socioeconomic aspects" section.
