Countries split up by place in alphabet[edit]

I noticed that the section which describes practices seems to be needlessly divided by each country's position within the alphabet. Why is this? I will edit it to be more cohesive. Russian inconsistency[edit]

There appears to be two different dates listed for Russian Mother's Day - once on International Women's Day and another in November. Which is correct? The Voivodeship King (talk) 08:25, 28 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Mr WIFE LTD[edit]

Citation 9 does not support reference to "Mr. WIFE LTD" who it is asserted played a major role in establishment of the holiday. A cursory Google search for "Mr. Wife LTD" returns no real results.

Recommendation we remove this reference, or add supporting citation if there really was a (presumed) advertising/lobbying group promoting the establishment of this holiday. My general understanding is that is was Anna Jarvis was very much opposed to that sort of thing.

Worldview problem[edit]

The article has a worldview problem in that it is overly focused on the USA - especially in the introductory paragraphs. Britain and many other countries had Mothers Day celebrations before the US version became popular. Newzild (talk) 21:07, 11 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Mothering Sunday was originally a "festival of austerity" (i.e., in the middle of Lent) encouraging clerics to return and visit their mother churches.

And the difference between "Mother's Day" and "Mothers' Day" is not a matter of spelling (the letters used in both are exactly the same) but one of punctuation, i.e., the position of the apostrophe.

In Poland, Mother's Day is celebrated May 26. I think it should be mentioned.

“Mothering Sunday”[edit]
