Question 2004[edit]

What's the wikipedia policy on songs? This entry is basically just lyrics, there's hardly any other information, is it necessary? Also, is it a copyright infringement?-R. fiend 18:31, 28 Jun 2004 (UTC)

The article isn't just basically the lyrics anymore since this comment. BauerPower 17:59, 28 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"Pizza Guy" Story[edit]

Recently on Toronto radio station Q107, Randy Bachman was interviewed by Kim Mitchell and Bachman tells the "Pizza Guy" story:

http://www.q107.com/DJsandShows/KimMitchell/Audio.aspx

Scroll down and you will find three audio pieces titled "Kim Mitchell interviews Randy Bachman for Luminato" It is one interview split into three pieces. The "Pizza Guy" story starts on the first and ends in the second. 174.115.65.175 (talk) 15:36, 22 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Drum part copied by Black Crowes?[edit]

I just heard the song and I couldn't help seeing strong simularities with the drums of the Black Crowes song 'get your rocks off'. Just me? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.60.105.182 (talk) 13:20, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Lyrics gone?[edit]

There are no more lyrics. Where did they go?

Moved from main page[edit]

Elvis Presley became a fan of B.T.O. He adopted the motto "takin care of business in a flash" as an homage to this song. He also designed (or had designed for him) a logo with the letters TCB and a lightning bolt for necklaces worn by his entourage. At one time Elvis had invited Robin Bachman and Blair Thornton to Las Vegas to watch one of his concerts. INCORRECT: Elvis had the TCB logo designed in 1970.

I've moved the above from the main page as it looks like someone has put a dispute in the middle of the article. No idea which is correct but may be best to just leave off the page until someone with more knowledge can put something accurate up. ny156uk 21:53, 24 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Notability of Uses[edit]

The majority of the instances of this song are very trivial and not notable. This needs attention and I'll see what I can do. First, we need to name the most notable and important recitals of this song in media.

Development Section[edit]

Article states that the song has a shuffle rhythm. This is false. It is a straight ahead eighth-note rock rhythm. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.104.36.156 (talk) 01:07, 11 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Chord progression[edit]

C, B-flat, F is V-IV-I, not that 1 7 4 whatever. Anyone got objections to changing it? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.26.244.2 (talk) 07:44, 23 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

pop-culture Skyrim[edit]

Theres a quest called "Taking care of business". I don't actually play, so Someone else has to get more details, but it's likely a shout-out. 69.115.70.39 (talk) 01:55, 5 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Bachman wrote Takin' Care of Business for Paul Shaffer?[edit]

In a concert aired on TV (most likely recorded), which I just caught the end of, Bachman stated (in effect, this may or may not be the exact phrasing), "I wrote [Takin' Care of Business] just for Paul Shaffer, and he's finally here tonight." I don't feel I have this story complete or quite accurately enough to add it to the article. Anyone? Bachman also mentioned that he was in New York. -- Introduction to Bachman & Turner performance of the song (show finale), with Schaefer on keyboard, "Front Row Center" series Show #108: Bachman & Turner, aired July 16, 2012 on WNET-TV (Channel 13). Elvis and the TCB Band[edit]

The current article mentions a claim that Elvis Presley was inspired to adopt the "TCB" slogan after listening to the BTO song. This assertion by Randy Bachman is false, as the the TCB motto and logo had first been created by Elvis in October of 1971.[1] This is alomst 2 years before the band BTO existed, and 3 years before the song "Taking Care of Business" would be released.

I feel Bachman's assertion should be either refuted in the article, removed, or the entire section deleted. I had originally made a change, but I didn't have a very reliable source at the time. I am hoping the new source referenced above will meet Wikipedia's standards.

Thanks. Rrakoczy (talk) 20:52, 4 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

We cannot use a source that does not discuss this song to say anything in this article. There are essentially five possibilities here:
1) The claim about Presley is wrong.
2) The claim about BTO is wrong.
3) There is a misunderstanding about the Presley source or how it relates the the BTO claim.
4) There is a misunderstanding about the BTO source or how it relates the the Presley claim.
5) Some combination of the above.
To resolve this question would require original research. The way to solve the issue here is a bit of work. If either source is of questionable reliability, it should be removed from anywhere we have used it. If both sources are reliable, we simply need to be careful about what we are saying. A reliable source might tell us that "Joe Blow said he saw a Time article that confirmed the Moon is made of cheese." This is quite different than "Joe Blow saw an article..." - SummerPhDv2.0 21:33, 4 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Who sang lead?[edit]

It doesn't make it clear who sang. Turner or Bachman. A simple "And so and so sang the lead after all".. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:642:4101:4167:1D7C:98B8:4602:8EC (talk) 22:50, 7 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The Elvis Connection[edit]

The statements that the BTO song inspired Elvis are wrong. EPBeatles (talk) 00:30, 2 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The reliable sources cited say that Bachman was aware of rumors about the origins of the TCB name but had not had them confirmed until watching a documentary about Elvis in which his widow confirmed the BTO connection and that Elvis had recorded a version of the song but that it would probably never be released. What part of that are you disputing? - SummerPhDv2.0 01:47, 2 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
