John Trapp has been a Wikipedia user and contributor since the fall of 2003.

Background[edit]

I was born, raised, and educated in southwestern Berrien County, Michigan, and attended Central Michigan University and Lake Michigan College before finally obtaining a degree in wildlife biology from Michigan State University. In subsequent years, I lived for extended periods of time (one or more years) in Scotland, Alaska, and West Virginia.

My professional career of 30+ years with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service focused primarily on the conservation of migratory birds, with special emphasis on (in order) Aleutian Canada Goose, Alaskan seabirds, Double-crested Cormorant, and Mute Swan.

Now happily retired and living back in my home State, my avocational interests find me chasing birds as a bird watcher or birder. In my spare time, I make voluntary contributions to citizen science projects such as CoCoRaHS (the Community Collaborative Rain, Hail, and Snow network), eBird, and the North American Bird Phenology Program.

I don't remember now how I first happened upon Wikipedia, sometime in the fall of 2003, but I do know that I was instantly intrigued by the concept and now find myself irretrievably hooked. Thus far, my Wikipedian contributions have focused largely on another special interest of mine, American-style football, particularly college football.
