Etymology and usage[edit]

Derived from the Hindu deity Krishna and the Sanskrit term murti (form), the name can be translated "in the form (or image) of Krishna". In regional Indian naming conventions it is usually a given name, but it may also be a family name. In other cases it may be westernized as a surname.
