Rebel?[edit]

I doubt that David Drew can be mentionned in the same breath as the leading rebels such as Corbyn - I recollect he 'rebelled' half a dozen times in the last Parliament, and not at all in his first term. Linuxlad 19:51, 11 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Kingswood[edit]

Have you got the right Kingswood? Kingsfield School (ex Kingswood Grammar School) is in Kingswood, South Gloucestershire.

Kingswood and Rebel??[edit]

I too would not put David Drew in the category of major rebel - but just encorporated the text. I dont know where Drew was born but several indicators state he was born in South Gloucestershire. As for the Kingswood - it states in several sources that he attended the 'Kingsfield' School and found [1] as well as others on the net - although you are correct saying they were Kingswood, Bristol - not South Gloucestershire - I fear I may have been 'careless' in putting the wrong Kingswood - have amended accordingly 15:19, 9 December 2005 (UTC)

No, I'm afraid you didn't :-) To recap Kingswood, South Gloucestershire (aka Kingswood, Bristol - I've just made a redirect) is indeed the location in question. It is on the eastern side of Bristol but is a fairly significant conurbation in its own right. Up to 1974 the Kingswood (S. Glos/Bristol) area, together with 'Northavon' to the West, was indeed in Gloucestershire. Post 74 they were, together with Bristol and some parts of Somerset, in the late-lamented county of Avon. When Avon broke up, Kingswood and Northavon were combined in a new unitary, South Gloucestershire. So it's correct for David to claim he was born in Gloucestershire, and for the school to be either Kingfield, Bristol (it will have a Bristol postcode) or Kingsfield, S. Glos. (And of course in DD's time it would have been Kingswood Grammar School, presumably under Gloucestershire LEA).

Now 18km to the North, just inside present Gloucestershire, lies the much smaller community of Kingswood, Gloucestershire; the nearest secondary school is halfway between Kingswood and Wotton under Edge, and is called 'Katharine, Lady Berkeley, Wotton' (aka KLB)...

The rebel post dates from just after the election. HTH Bob Linuxlad
