Move from Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis to Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis in accordance with (1) clarity and wiki standards and (2) uniformity with other diocesan articles.

Proposed move[edit]

To Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis:

  • Support move.The current name is too long. No one in the Twin Cities calls it the "Roman Catholic Archdiocese". It should be identified as such in the text as now, but there is no reason to give the article this LONG name that is not used. EdwinHJ | Talk 22:11, 17 Apr 2005 (UTC)
    • The standard is simply silly. Why should an article be named something that no one calls it simply because some people on Wikipedia prefer it for ease. In some cases, there may be a legimate need to distinguish between different denomination's divisions, however in the US no other major church body even USES the term archdiocese. In this specific case the only other diocese in the same area is the Episcopal Church's, and theirs is called the Diocese of Minnesota not Saint Paul and Minneapolis. This standard is arbitrary and has no relevance to archdioceses within the US.EdwinHJ | Talk 18:34, 20 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Awkward intro[edit]

"It is led by the prelature of an archbishop which administers the archdiocese from the cities of Saint Paul and Minneapolis."

This is awkward wording. "Prelature" to refer to an archdiocese is technobabble. patsw 02:13, 19 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Co-cathedral[edit]

Proper name?[edit]

Per the MOS, should the archbishop, archdiocese etc always be referred to as "Saint Paul" rather than "St Paul" (or worse "St. Paul"), since the city's official site seems to currently heavily favour the full form? DBD 12:46, 30 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Probably yes, more because the archdiocese itself exclusively uses the full form than because of anything the city's website says (which amusingly calls itself "City of St. Paul, MN - Official Website", though apparently it uses the full name ewerywhere else). Other priests of this diocese who became bishops[edit]

I checked catholic-hierarchy and find priests in what should be this category on Wikipedia. Was there ever such a section here on Wikipedia for this archdiocese? Carlm0404 (talk) 11:33, 9 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I have now done such section myself. Please put feedback here. I listed all those from catholic-hierarchy who are listed only as Priest for this diocese.

Question which I posted in email to catholic-hierarchy about John Loughlin, who became a bishop in 1853: Why does Wikipedia article give the impression that he was a priest of New York diocese when I see St. Paul diocese instead when I am on catholic-hierarchy ?
