The St. Stephen's Tower / Clock Tower confusion is a personal bugbear. I originally investigated the name of the tower which houses Big Ben, following a bet with a friend of mine. After contacting the Palace of Westminster, I discovered that no-one at the Palace (including the staff that work in the clock tower itself) refer to it as St. Stephen's Tower, and that it is simply referred to as The Clock Tower. This is reflected on the UK Parliament website [1].

There are three towers in the Palace of Westminster - The Clock Tower to the north, Victoria Tower to the south, and the Central Tower above the central corridor between the House of Lords and House of Commons. - MykReeve 01:09, 22 Jan 2004 (UTC)

redirection[edit]

Clock Tower with two caps can safely redirect to Big Ben; the problem otherwise lies in the articles that link to clock tower (in general) using both caps. The same issue happens with Quantum Leap, the TV series and quantum leap the physical phenomenon. An alternative might be to move clock tower (in general) to tower clock , which is already a redirect there. --Christopherlin 02:54, 26 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Are you sure? I've heard it referred to as the "Clocktower" without a space, but does it have an official name? Basically, when people search for "Clock tower" they are searching for info on clock towers, not Big Ben. --Rebroad 14:42, 11 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion[edit]

I am recommending this page for deletion as it is not common Wikipedia practice to create a page with variations of capitalisation redircting to a page with the correct capitalisation. "Clock tower" is more correct than "Clock Tower" - there is no reason to capitalise the T of tower, as it is not a "proper noun". --Rebroad 13:47, 11 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
