Dynamite Headdy[edit]

Dynamite Headdy is one of the most innovative, if not the most innovative game, I have ever played for its time. Dynamite Headdy is the game with the undoubtly best graphics for the Sega Genesis / Mega Drive. It consists of effects like 3d spinning, huge sprites, uncountable number of screen flips etc. - things you will see in no other game for the Genesis. With its hidden "bonus points" that are hidden throughout the game, you never get tired of finding new ones. It should be noted that Dynamite Headdy takes some puns on other computer games. For example, on the flying stage, the endboss clearly resembles the endboss of the flying stage in Rocket Knight Adventure. As I read on the article Treasure Co. Ltd, one of the Treasure employees is believed to have worked for Konamis Rocket Knight Adventure.

As I remember, isn't Dynamite Headdy loosely based on a Japanese anime? Thanks, --Abdull 10:55, 24 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Nope, not so far as I know. There is a Japanese 4koma (4-panel gag strip) series about Dynamite Headdy that ran in a game magazine (I think it was called Beep!) for six months before the game came out, though. --Madamluna

box art unattractive?[edit]

according to the opening here the game didn'as it sell well outside Japan due to ugly box art. Isn't that down to opinion? I've seen the US box art and I admit it doesn't look too good, but the European artwork is very very good imo.

Well, that depends. I think the person who wrote that part was basing it on what they'd seen in my FAQ / Walkthrough posted on GameFAQs, in which I stated my opinion on the European cover art. Being my FAQ and being on a different site, I was excused from the neutrality rules of Wikipedia. But yes, the reasons why the game didn't sell well (and views on the box art) are really down to opinions in the end. Minty Fresh Death 13:43, 4 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think the American box art is replusive. I would much prefer either of the other boxes to be used. --Mysterious Bob (talk) 23:02, 17 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Looking at the European box art... I'd have to say, the article's box art is fine as it is, no need to be changed. 68.196.48.208 (talk) 02:55, 11 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Dynamite headdybox.jpg[edit]

Image:Dynamite headdybox.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

I'll take this one up.

Lead
  • Overall, the lead summarizes the article well, but I think the second paragraph is a bit weighty compared to the first one.
    • OK I shortened it.
Gameplay
  • If my understanding is correct, doesn't the game take place behind the scenes of a puppet show? If this is accurate, I'd mention this.
    • I don't know if that's true. I've heard similar things, but I haven't found a source that states this. The game definitely has a puppet world vibe going though, which is mentioned. If you have a source, let me know.
  • Gameplay otherwise is well-written and explains the gameplay.
Development and release
  • I think the other release dates need to be referenced here, and to clarify that the August release date was the Japanese launch day.
    • Added info and sources
  • The compilation includes all versions of Dynamite Headdy released on all three Sega platforms across all regions.[8][7][9] Shift the second ref across to be first.
  • For GA standards, I think the development is good, but if you plan on FACing this, you'll need to bombard it with more information. Try finding developer interviews or old magazine previews.
    • Yea this is about it for readily accessible information. Remaining information is locked away in Japanese print resources, which I have but will take some effort to translate. I don't plan on taking to FA, at least anytime soon.
Reception
  • The Hardcore Gamer 101 article below describes the reception as "critical acclaim". I'd say that's pretty accurate looking at the review table.
    • Added
  • Journalists repeatedly highlighted the game's creativity as a strong point.[14][12][18][17] Citations need switching around (should be 12, 14, 17, 18)
  • Critics found the Game Gear port to be well done given the system's less powerful technology.[20][21][19] Last citation needs to be first.

Overall, this article is pretty close to the GA standards, but needs some minor tweaks. Thus, I am placing this review on hold. Great job overhauling this article, TarkusAB! JOEBRO64 00:43, 8 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
