The image on urban heat island

[edit]
Image of Atlanta, Georgia, showing temperature distribution, with blue showing cool temperatures, red warm, and hot areas appear white.

Hi User:Beyond My Ken: The image of the urban heat island says nothing about rain. So why do you want it included? It really just shows a red/hot city. If you want to illustrate the effect of urban heat island on rain then I think a different image should be chose or at least the caption should be made clearer. The image illustrates an urban heat island, which is the subject of the section. That it shows no precipitation is irrelevant. Beyond My Ken (talk) 11:26, 5 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Section heading: changes to due climate change

[edit]

I think the section heading "changes due to global warming" should be changed to "‎Changes due to climate change". For the same reason why the main Wikipedia article is now called climate change and no longer "global warming". There is much more than just "warming" which is happening, there is also an intensification of the water cycle (see effects of climate change on the water cycle) etc. Also, the greenhouse gas emissions also cause ocean acidification which comes from the CO2 itself, not from the warming. So the general trend is to simply use the term climate change as it's all encompassing. See all the Wikipedia articles that now have "climate change" in their title, e.g. effects of climate change. EMsmile (talk) 08:52, 5 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Climate change is the result of global warming, which therefore is the ultimate cause of changes in precipitation patterns. Beyond My Ken (talk) 11:28, 5 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
it's not the warming as such that is the root cause but the imbalance of the Earth's energy budget. Stressing only the warming (temperature effect) is not enough. That's exactly why in all the Wikipedia articles about climate change/warming, we are now using "climate change" in the title, not "global warming". GA concerns

[edit]

I am concerned that this article no longer meets the good article criteria. Some of my concerns are outlined below:

  • There is a lot of uncited text, particularily in the "Satellite data sets" section
  • There is an orange "update" banner from 2022 on top of the "Changes due to global warming" section: has this been resolved?

Is anyone interested in addressing the above concerns, or should this go to WP:GAR? Z1720 (talk) 14:00, 27 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
