- I don't understand the question. The model for the painting was Millais's daughter Effie. Paul B 15.21, 22 Dec, 2004
biography v art
[edit]I've removed a lot of stuff about Effie's life, which would be better in her biography (Effie Gray). An account of an artist should concentrate on his art. Also the claim that M changed his style for commercial reasons is old-fashioned and is not really supported by the evidence. He was still painting detailed works 10 years after his marriage, and he regularly explained and justified his changes of style, which are complex and extend over a long period. Matter of opinion
[edit]I disagree with the comment "His last project was to be a painting depicting a white hunter lying dead in the African veldt, his body contemplated by two indifferent Africans". The painting would seem to be of a dying man who is being guarded by his faithful servants. If they were indifferent they would have long gone leaving him to be eaten by wild animals. cbailward 3.11.2007 —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cbailward (talk • contribs) 09:32, 3 November 2007 (UTC)
- There is no painting. It only exists as a print. I think the point is that their feelings are inaccessible. Paul B 23:22, 3 November 2007 (UTC)
still unprecedented age of eleven
[edit]it is not "still unprecedented" - the precedent has now been set by Millais
