[edit]"Clement Hofbauer", as he is called here, is known under the name of Clemens Maria Hofbauer in Vienna and the rest of Austria. I was wondering if the latter would be the proper title for the article. I was surprised to get lots of Google hits with "Clement", "Clement Mary", "Clement Maria" etc. We don't usually do that, do we—change someone's first name(s) according to the country we live and write in. It's not Ludwig Armstrong in Germany, Andrew Hofer in Britain, or István Spender in Hungary.
I'd also be interested in the source material. Is it any of the public domaine encyclopaedias? For a quick reference, see http://www.aeiou.at/aeiou.encyclop.h/h710309.htm;internal&action=_setlanguage.action?LANGUAGE=en <KF> 16:12, Mar 8, 2005 (UTC)
This seems a good idea - but when I try to move the page I keep on getting a response to log in - yet I am! Can you move it to Clemens Maria Hofbauer?
Some material is available in Public Domain Encyclopedia - such as http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/04044a.htm. <Dominicotoole>
Okay. Surprisingly, it worked. Thanks for the information, and all the best, <KF> 17:10, Mar 8, 2005 (UTC)
PS You'll probably have to write something on your user page so that it's no longer a red link! KF
Rename was a mistake
[edit]While names are not translated for general public figures, by tradition they are for saints. In German, do you say "Francesco d'Assisi" or "Franziskus von Assisi"? Clement Mary Hofbauer would be the proper form in English, as is shown by it being the way he is listed in Catholic Encyclopedia, and that was published in 1908.
I feel it should be changed back. How can this be done? Daniel the Monk (talk) 17:31, 16 March 2012 (UTC)
