Concerning the explanation of the origin of "Owyhee": I thought it was the other way around. Didn't Captain Cook document that the natives called their Island "Oh Why Hee"? —EncMstr 08:24, 18 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Hawaiian fur trappers were active in the Owyhee County area in 1819 and 1820, thus the name here. --Faustus37 20:16, 7 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
