What is the motion being described?[edit]

Which, if any, of the following claims is this article trying to make?

  • "...towards the midline of the body."
  • "...from the midline of the body."
  • "...towards or from the midline of the body. (i.e., depending upon species)"
  • "...towards and from the midline of the body. (i.e., in all species, or in the species under discussion here)"

I know nothing of physiology, so I can't answer.
