Laura is a very intelligent, well read, and well travelled young woman. Her skills extend far beyond mere mastery of the English language. Apparently she is quite handy with a nailgun and cordless drill, as well.

The Wikipedia Community has started a campaign to convince Laura to become an active contributor, as most are certain that the very survival of the project is dependant on this occurring.

Why Wikipedia needs Laura

Wikipedia has thousands of contributors, and while everybody has some knowledge to contribute, some have a less than perfect command of the language. There are typographical errors, poorly worded sentences, and embarrassing grammatical errors throughout. The need for professional and skilled editors is obvious.

Why Laura should join Wikipedia

• Wikipedia is a volunteer organisation, and just like any volunteer organisation, they are always in need of new members
• Wikipedia has noble intentions. Copyrighted encyclopedias, while a good source of information, are only available to a very small number of wealthy people. The goal of Wikipedia is to make knowledge available to everyone, regardless of their ability to pay.
• Believe it or not, contributing to Wikipedia is fun

Where to start?

• Copyedit an article. There are thousands of articles that need to be cleaned up
• Join a project
• Check out the Australian wikipedians' 'notice board or the U.S. Wikipedians' notice board
